When I met Handsome Hubby and fell deeply madly forever in love, I knew I was in for a life that would include some four legged creatures. He was born and bred on a horse farm, surrounded by creatures big and small. Dogs, Cats, Horses, they were part of who he was.
Fast forward about 15 years and Hubs and I have it pretty well sorted out. We have two beautiful girls, a black lab, and 1 smelly fish.
That, I thought, was that.
Until my wonderful Mother In Law stepped in. Yes, I have to put the blame somewhere. MIL had found the cutest kitty that ever lived. We simply had to go and take a look at this poor baby, because being the animal lovers that we are, clearly we are the ones most easily guilted into “saving” poor kitty.
I took the bait. What the hell was I thinking? For the past two weeks every conversation has revolved around cats, kittens and included some kind of begging from the small people in my house.
At this point I should probably mention my ten year old daughter has asked for a kitten for Christmas every year since she was two. BlueEyes sleeps with a stuffed cat we have affectionately dubbed flat cat due to fact that it has been cuddled with for so long and so hard that it is in fact FLAT.
So the update.
MIL now informs me the Mama Kitty has come back. She rubbed up against the legs of FIL, accepted some food from him, collected her cutest kitty ever and MOVED ON! Took that free kitty and left. My babies actually cried. And secretly, I was a little disappointed? Huh? I didn’t expect that.
I have always thought that cats were, well…kind of spooky.
Scary light up eyes.
Shedding messes.
Sneaky little suckers.
But…
I feel like it is now or never. 10 more years and my girls are off to University, Hubs and I off to travel the world right?
We have the girls hopes up so high. Thanks MIL.
Kittens are ridiculously cute.
Maybe it would help me to get over the no third baby thing?
My girls did promise to scoop all poop, vacuum all hair, clean up general grossness. (yeah unrealistic, I know)
The biggest thing….It would make their little dreams come true and how often do you really get to play Fairy God Mother and make a dream come true?
So with the power of the Internet I started combing breeders, kitty sites, and shelters looking to see if there were any more Kitty’s that needed to be rescued.
OK so there are like a million of them.
Then we made the rounds.
We went to Pet Stores. Shelters. Farms.
Was I trying to talk myself into a kitty or out of one?
Are we adopting? AHHH! I don’t know for sure, but we are going back to see a cute white little baby with the Pushover Hubby tomorrow.
Things don’t look great for me, my vacuum and the dog.

Wishing you luck.

Definitely for the kids, yes. I was never a cat person either until we got Jessica. Now I could never be without a cat on the farm.

We find so many things out about ourselves through our children, don’t we, and find ourselves doing so many things we never expected! Best of luck searching for the perfect little kitten. My boys have been on the bandwagon for a dog for years now. I haven’t caved yet, but it is only a matter of time.

Ha Ha Ha.
It is an easy dream to fulfill. You would be doing them good and helping all of us when you rescue an unwanted kitty!!!! Plus, they only live about 10-17 years. You better hurry, or the cat will be traveling the world with YOU!

Make sure to get a fresh little kitty. I got my current cats at about 7 months old. They have some bad eating habits from being in the shelter for so long.
And… they really don’t make a lot of hair around the house. Their little nails are the bigger issue scratching and tearing things up. I got the front claws out. But, the back claws still leave little holes in the leather coaches.

I think it’s great that you are doing it for the girls! I like cats when they are kittens – V cute! – but not so much after that. My friends cat brings her in all kinds of nasty gifts in the form of semi alive animals… and leaves them on her pillow! Small Child asked on holiday if she could have a rabbit! I managed to buy us some time by saying yes… when you’re 8!

Awww, we have two cats and a dog at our house. The cats came first – my first hairy pet was a cat. It taught me a lot of responsibility, so I guess that part was good. But I have to say, there seems to be a lot more grossness on the part of a cat than a dog – don’t forget about hairballs. And cats who are so finicky about their bathroom business that you must clean the cat box twice a day otherwise they’ll do their business in undesirable locations. Don’t get me wrong, I do love my cats, but they’re definitely more high-maintenance than my dog. Good luck!!

Ahh, good luck with that. My son has not yet been able to budge me on the goldfish thingy –yet.

kitty’s are cute, I finally gave in last year and bought a kitty, the kids loved it, til it scratched them and chased them around the house. We made it through the kitten year and now we have a cat that is part of our family. PS I got the “we will do everything” speech too, I am still the only one that feeds him and changes his litter box!

I so love cats. They pick the neatest places to nap. They like back rubs, but aren’t needy (unless the food bowl is empty). My boys love cats. We have tons of fun cat stories. With 5 sons, I definitely don’t want a needy pet! Enjoy the little fur ball!

Fairy Kitty Mother.. Can I have a kitten too? I’d LOVE, LOVE LOVE to have one! The Hubby says NO, and well, with Bella, it’s just not possible. I’d love to see a photo if you decide to get one soon!
GOOD LUCK ON YOUR ADVENTURE! HuGZ
