Yes, I can admit it. This is something I have always said. It’s kinda of a mantra.
Going out on the town? There is two feet of snow. (Yeah Canada!) I don’t concern my stuff with all that white stuff. I do not do the sensible thing, I grab my cute little black pickle stabbers. They go better with my jeans, help elongate the legs, and are all matchy matchy with the new “had to have it” top.
It’s minus what? Oh well. Must not worry about it. This wee white coat is to die for and I feel great in it. Fashion Before Function I always say.
Then we come to today’s dilemma. SweetGirl is going to a slumber party tonight.
Mama. I can NOT be seen taking a Disney Princess Sleeping Bag. That is so not cool!
Hmm. Yep. I remember the peer pressure thing a little bit too clearly. I guess it is time to go and trade in this “baby” sleeping bag for something a little bit more grown up.
Drop the babes off at school and head to Canadian Tire. What? You have not heard of Canadian Tire? K. It’s only the bestest giantist hardware, camping, fishing, car needs, light bulb, paint, plant store around. It’s Canadian eh.
They have like 88 different styles of sleeping bags to choose from? Oh nooooo. I am clearly out of my depth. The sales guys there, they think this is all kinds of funny.
Look, the kid just needs something to crash in when the sugar wears off. There will be no rain, no hiking to the arctic, no ground to sleep on. No grounding sheet required, no air mattress underneath, no three room tent to accompany my purchase. This is not real camping, this is little girl camping. With candy, lip gloss and giggling. I need a sleeping bag that goes with that!
Thank goodness for the fashion before function rule! I don’t need sales dudes to help me out of my shopping dilemma, I just have to follow the rule! When in doubt…go for fashion baby!
I selected the three and half pound burnt orange, down filled sleeping bag designed by Roots. She is pretty and puffy and cozy.
One happy Mama, one happy kid.
Here’s hoping she sleeps like a baby tonight.
Mwah!

Good choice (and perhaps good riddance to the Princess thing). Onward into new teen trend territory!

Good for you! I tend to get angry in the winter b/c I feel like I can’t wear good shoes, etc., so I admire you for saying the heck with it and going for fashion!

Well, you might as well be out of the world as out of the fashion.

We live in polar opposite worlds! Well OK both polar-as-in-freezing, but I gave up fashion for function a looong time ago… Sometimes I miss being noticed for being pretty but most of the time I’m just glad I can feel my toes and haven’t lost any fingers to frostbite! LOL!
What? I’m old!

That’s one fashionable sleeping bag – all ours are rated for 0 degree weather and weight for backpacking. There ain’t nothing stylish about any of ours. Oh well, they do keep us warm while camping.

Those are killer heels LOL. I often marvel at how people shop in them. For me, comfort comes first with shoes but with other stuff, I sometimes place fashion before function.

My favorite color….Canadian tire sounds a place that sells tires for cars…lol
Kids grow up so fast and their likes change faster – my 13 year old put over 200 songs on her Ipod last year… Now she doesn’t like any of the songs now and wants new ones… not add songs.. the old ones “have” to be taken off….funny –
Hope your sweetie had a good sleep over..
Love to you
Kelly

Oh Kindred Spirits where were you when I had on the cutest shoes in the freezing cold of New Orleans last week! Cold? Of course I was cold! Which is why an adorable boy gave me his jacket.
Sigh
Love the sleeping bag. You are a great mom!

probably not the most practical for snow and ice, but those are some great looking boots
