Few things are as sweet as celebrating a birthday with your little one.
It can also be said that few things are as bittersweet. Can someone please tell me how it’s possible that one night you are going to bed begging any and all the Gods you believe in for your baby to just go to sleep, and the next you are suddenly faced with a pre-teen? How one goes from swaddling an infant, mashing bananas and walking around the grocery store with that fresh “spit up on” smell; to driving car pool, buying size Adult Small clothes, and desperately trying to learn the names of all the cool boy bands just so you can keep up with your girl?
Today I count my blessings.
I give thanks for a SweetGirl with an incredibly kind heart. A girl who always puts others before herself. Who treasures her friendships the way she used to treasure her teddy bears. Who loves her pets, and the odd wild toad and worm of the backyard, with a fierceness that is beyond adorable.
I am thankful for her quiet smile, her deep thoughts, and her big heart.
I am thankful for her quick wit and her intoxicating giggle.
Every day I am thankful for her laugh, her health…just all of her.
Birthdays are supposed to be about the birthday girl, celebrating their lives, lavishing them with attention; but on the days my children were born….they truly became my biggest, brightest blessings. They were and are, my best birthday gifts.
Thank you to both my girls who manage to somehow make every day a little brighter, and my life a whole lot sweeter. Oh and of course, happiest of Birthdays to my SweetGirl.
