Just over a year ago I had the pleasure of introducing my family to Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure! My verdict at that time; it was a fab addition to our Wii system and a fun way to spend some quality time with our two pre-teen girls! Now I have the opportunity to check out a brand new add on to the Skylanders Adventures, the Skylanders Giants!
The Skylander Giants jump right in where Spyros Adventure left off! “Thousands of years ago, the Skylanders Giants fought epic battles in Skylands but were banished to Earth. With a new threat looming, it’s time to bring them back to join forces with the Skylanders. Only you can put them on the Portal of Power to unleash their strength in the ultimate battle to save the Skylands.” The characters are bold, loud, bright and so much bigger!
The Portal of Power continues to be the coolest new addition to a video game in a long time! It sits on your coffee table and allows the player to pop a character in and out of the game. Each time you want to swap one character for another, you physically switch your character for a new one, just trade their place right on that Portal of Power. I won’t pretend to understand how it works, but I will tell you it’s tons of fun!
With 16 brand new characters with powers to match, you are once again set to lead that team of heroic cast members in an all new adventure to save their world. During your journey through the new areas of the Skylands you encounter new enemies, solve challenging puzzles, overcome obstacles, and collect treasure!
It didn’t take me very long to figure out which of the characters in my new Skylander’s Giants Started Pack was my fave. Hands down it’s the Tree Rex. Seriously, how much fun is that name! Tree Rex is a giant mutated tree who uses his massive fists to smash the ground sending shockwaves throughout the land and crush his enemies. This fist bashing, it’s all kinds of fun! He’s a tree that attacks!
For the true gamers out there, you will be thrilled to know all of the beloved characters from Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure are 100% compatible with Skylanders Giants, each of their abilities and upgrades intact.
With a price point of $74.99, I’m thinking this would be a pretty special present for Santa to leave under the tree! One more great idea to add to that Christmas list!

I’m ashamed to say our kids gave me a wii several years ago for Christmas and I used it for a short time and now it lies unused!

Haven’t heard this from my kiddo. He’s into minecraft nowadays, but it still has no PS3 version. I am going to check if this has one, and I agree, it’s going to be a neat present for Christmas!
