Anyone who knows me at all knows that I am a Mama who adores her coffee. There might be nothing I enjoy more then a good cup of coffee. Oh wait unless is chocolate with that coffee, oh and cake! So when I was offered a chance to try out the brand new Keurig system courtesy of Staples, I had to jump at the chance.
Life is busy and my little girls are growing up way too fast. It seems like just yesterday when I would gather with my “Mommy Group” for our once a week coffee. Taking turns hosting at each others houses. There would be laughter, baby hugging, and even a few tears as we supported each other through the biggest changes of our lives. The growth of our family and so much time spent alone with little people who didn’t talk back, just seemed easier when shared with good friends. Two things I could always count on at the Mommy Group, a good chat and a great cup of coffee. During those days we brewed pot after pot! Now Mommy Group is but a memory, as is the need to brew an entire pot of coffee. The big coffee maker just doesn’t see as much use as it used to.
This is one reason I was happy to review the Keurig Coffee System. I am a coffee snob, so was willing to put it to the test and see if it would stand up to my pot that grinds fresh beans and brews on demand. You know what? I wasn’t disappointed!
My favourite features and thoughts on the Keurig:
*It is super easy set up. Take the Keurig out of the box, follow a couple of steps and you are ready to go in only moments.
*You have the option of having a small (stronger) cup, or a larger cup. I prefer the large.
*The filter system allows for the use of filtered water. Yes Please. I do wish the reservoir held a little more water. I seem to be filling it up quite often.
*I am amazed and impressed with the sheer variety of flavours available! There are over 200 varieties of K-Cups to choose from.
*Hot! This system creates a truly hot cup of coffee.
*Consistency. You can count on the same strength and tasting cup of Joe by simply pressing a button.
*The Auto Shut Off. If you so choose you can set up your Keurig Brewer to automatically turn off two hours after your last brew. A great feature for me!
*So easy to use. The first time you turn it on for the day it does take about four minutes to heat up. Impatient me does wish it was a little faster.
Short of delivery from my favourite coffee shops, the Keurig is my new favourite system. It truly makes a consistent, hot, great tasting cup of coffee with ease! I’m a fan. Now I’m off to try and see how many of those 200 flavours I can get through this week!
Keurig Systems and K Cups can be found at your local Staples Store!

@ChiTownGirl
I absolutely adore that you love coffee as much as I do!!
You are so right about ALL of this! I too made the mistake of doing the math to figure out how much money I was spending in a week at the drive thru. It’s the Tim Hortons for me! Scary! In the long run, actually the short run, this system is worth every single penny.
Now as for the tips you shared with me, with us, thank you! I had no idea you could buy a bigger reservoir. Brilliant. Thanks!
And now I have a question for you. What is your favourite flavoured coffee? Do you have one?
PS Thanks for YOUR review!

I just remembered something else I wanted to tell you. If you go to Keurig website, you can order a bigger water reservoir. It wasn’t super cheap, but worth it, for as much as we use ours. Go to the “replacement parts” section. I found it by accident, actually. I stupidly put my reservoir in the dishwasher, and melted the corner. When I went to look for a replacement, I saw that you can get a bigger one. Yay!
Ok, I swear, I won’t write anymore about this. =)

My sister has one and likes it. Me, I only like coffee in one flavor (coffee-flavored), so what works best for me is buying whole beans and grinding them fresh every morning. Mmmm.

We love our Keurig. We have the single serve reservoir since it is only used on the weekends by my husband. I seldom drink coffee but I am starting to drink green tea. They are a great invention!

I love that you had a mommy group. I did too. It was the best support when our kids were babies and we still get together for weekly park playdates in the summer when I’m off work.
I got a Keurig for Christmas and I love it! Thanks to the previous poster for the tip to join green mountain. They have great coffee.

I freakin’ ADORE my Keurig!! I bought myself one for Christmas a couple years ago, and instantly fell in love. I was a huge Dunkin’ Donuts fan, but realized that the cost of my daily coffee wasn’t going to fit into my new “I want to quit my job” budget. My Keurig came with 60 coffee pods (huge variety of flavor samples!) as well as a reusable filter. Just those things alone covered the cost of the machine!! I was paying about $2.50 for a cup of coffee at DD, so the way I saw it, $2.50 x 60 (the pods I got for free) = $150. That’s more than I paid for the machine! The reusable filter costs about $20 in stores, which means I got about $170 worth of value for the $129 I paid for my Keurig at Sam’s Club. Not bad, right?
That’s not even taking into account how much I’ve saved ever since by not going to DD. I was buying 5-10 cups a week. That’s $12.50-$25 a week! Yeah, I know, I’m a geek, but it makes me so happy. I LOVE MY KEURIG!
I love it so much, I’ve bought 5 more as gifts. My parents, sister, brother and a couple of friends all love their Keurig machines, too 😉
I’m not sure if you get to keep the machine you tried, but if you do, I would suggest going to GreenMountain.com, and joining their ‘coffee club.’ It saves me TONS on pods! (No, I don’t get a kick back from them, silly, I just LOVE them!)
Oh, and if you do keep it, I would suggest you follow what the manufacturer suggests, and leave it on all the time. I used to turn mine off, too (via the timer) but I had a few hiccups with my brewer. (BTW, Keurig IMMEDIATELY replaced it, no questions asked) I’ve left the new machine on all the time, and have had no problems at ALL. The best part is that my machine is ALWAYS ready to go! We use it from the time we get up for our morning coffee, later for our afternoon coffee (mine is usually some yummy flavor, as a “treat”) and then again after dinner for some relaxing tea before bed.
Holy cow, can you tell I LOVE my Keurig machine!?!? Ok, the commercial is over. Time to go enjoy the coffee I JUST brewed. 😉

I have used the Keurig since it came out and we are on our second one. I would never have anything else – the coffee from there is delicious! sandie

I was housesitting a few months back, and my friends had a Tassimo.
I LOVED LOVED LOVED the ease of use, speed, and ability to whip up a single cup in a flash..
HOWEVER, I also found that what *I* apparently consider to be ONE cup of coffee is far from what is actually ONE cup of coffee hah :-O ((Try 2 cups))..
Basically, it didn’t seem like it would be cost efficent for a large cuppa coffee drinker to use a machine… Unless I were to invest in the refillable cups you can get..
