Do you love your house? We bought our house almost 14 years ago. At that time Hubby and I walked through with a toddler in tow, looking at our would be/could be dream home through rose coloured glasses and the planning began. We would paint our daughter’s room right away. We would replace that old carpet ASAP. A little love and care to those old floors and they would shine right up. A little creative decorating would make “their” old house “our” perfect home. We took the leap, even though it was far from perfect; the neighbourhood was ideal, the backyard fantastic, we jumped and we bought that house!
We moved in. Our “To Do” list was a mile long and we really did try to tackle some of those projects. The problem; our house had other plans for us. We quickly learned our “quaint” wood windows were painted shut. Do you know what happens when you break the seal on painted windows? It gets a little breezy in your home! Breezy is okay in the spring and summer. Not so much in the fall and winter. Job number one became replace the windows. Job number two became replace the furnace. Job number three was the roof. I won’t bore you with what came next. Our wee house became a money pit and all the things I wanted to do, soon became things I had to do. So now, nearly 15 years later, I like my house, but most certainly I do not LOVE MY HOUSE.
Now it is time to change that. Shouldn’t every person love where they live? I think so! It’s time to find my decorating diva, pull out my hard hat and make some big changes to this house that is firmly stuck in the 80’s. Do you want to hear what I have planned? Of course you do!! I am over the top excited to announce that thanks to The Home Depot I am finally taking huge steps to #LoveMyHouse ! I have now made countless trips back and forth to our local Home Depot. I’ve taken, pictures, samples and picked up the biggest order ever of……HARDWOOD FLOORING! Eek! I’m so excited!
The SassyHubby and I are renovating almost the entire main floor of our home! We are replacing cracked dull tile with Dubeau Prestige Series Maple Hardwood. We’re fixing the front hall and the bathroom. We are ripping out stained and yes, burnt rug in the family room.
We are completely tearing out the chipped, and worn out tile in the kitchen.
This renovation is soooo overdue!
Our floors are sort of embarrassing! I will admit, I’m just a little overwhelmed and a complete home reno newbie, so this could get interesting! I hope you will follow along with me on my journey as I shop for my final product, rip-out the old cracked and forever stained stuff, and ultimately replace and reveal my brand new house! You can find me chatting away and asking for opinions on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook all with the hashtag #LoveMyHouse Wish me luck!

Can’t wait to see the results!
Stephanie says
Thanks Jennifer!! I can’t wait to start busting up that floor and get to it!
lisa Atfield says
Good luck! I love my house but also have things that when done would have me loving it more!
Stephanie says
I recently hung a painting in my bedroom, it was a birthday gift, I can’t believe what a big difference that little change made!
Single Mom in the South says
Its looks like a lovely place. Can’t wait to get into my “forever home” hopefully in the next year or so!
Stephanie says
Home really is where the heart is right? Looking forward to hearing about your forever home too!
brian miller says
nice…you have good stock to work with…i love the staircases….sounds like you are in for a bit of chaotic fun…we hope to do that in the not too distant future…
Stephanie says
People either love or hate the staircase! Truthfully, I’m not a fan, after the floor goes in, we may paint that thing!
Soozle says
Oh! Your front entrance! Those stairs! I am looking forward to seeing the renos – it’s going to be beautiful!
Stephanie says
Thank you so much!!! I’m sure all this hard work is going to pay off 🙂
Liz @ A Nut in a Nutshell says
This is so exciting! I have crappy floors in about half of my home too. I love the hardwoods and carpet, but I hate my vinyl flooring in the kitchen and bathrooms. Can’t wait to see the results at your place!
Stephanie says
After chatting with family and friends it seems so many of us put up with flooring we just don’t like!! Can’t wait to see the difference this is going to make in our home. Thanks for following along:)
Deborah Pucci says
It is all so exciting. I know it won’t be fun but definitely worth it. I have a friend who did her house last year in wood flooring including the stairway and it is stunning!
Stephanie says
Oh the stairway too!! It is on our list! I doubt we will be able to replace the rug anytime soon, but we are toying with the idea of painting all that wood!
Alexis AKA MOM says
Burnt rug … Hmmmm lol
Home reno is so hard but so wonderful on the end side 🙂
Stephanie says
Ha! Yes. My name is Stephanie and I am addicted to my wood burning fireplace. The problem; I like a BIG fire and my fire place is teeny! This can lead to a few sparks escaping once in a while!
tammigirl says
You are going to love it! We have maple hardwoods in our house and they are fabulous! Love-Love-Love!
Stephanie says
Thanks!! So excited, I am sure hardwood is the right choice for us 🙂
Julie says
I’ll admit it. We did the same thing. Bought our house and swore we would update it right away. Now here it is 5 years later and we have not done one darn thing. Can’t wait to see how your renovation turns out. Maybe I can get my Hubby off his butt to do some of his Honey Do list!
Stephanie says
I knew I couldn’t be the only one!! Sometime life just gets in the way, and for sure those projects get bumped way down the list. Hopefully my reno will inspire you to tackle one of your projects! So far, the excitement alone makes it worth it!

Having been through the same type of reno a few years ago, if you need words of encouragement feel free to ask.
Stephanie says
Thank you!! I’m starting to pack up my kitchen right now! It’s one thing to think about putting in the new floors, another to realize you have to take out all the old one’s and move all your crap around in order to do it. One step at a time right?
AlwaysARedhead says
You need to think about are you going to be able to wash dishes? We used the bathtub, sounds silly but it worked since I didn’t have a second kitchen. Will you eat take-out during this time, or bbq everything?
Stephanie says
Oh good point!! We are going to have to move ALL our appliances around and can’t survive on pizza for too long:)
Hoping for good weather for the next few weeks so we can BBQ, and may be doing a lot of sandwiches!
Busy Bee Suz says
Best of luck with this!!! We replaced all our floors a few years ago; it was daunting but SO worth it!!
XO
Stephanie says
Daunting might be the perfect word, but we are ready. I’m so tired of being unhappy, almost embarrassed of my cracked, chipped super ugly floors. I’m sure hardwood is going to make a dramatic difference in this old house!
Reta says
It’s stressful but loads of fun at the same time. We are currently renovating our house top to bottom. Thankfully my handy hubby can do most of the work himself and I get to take care of our 4 & 6 yr old girls in the process. Hoping to be back to somewhat normal this winter. 🙂
Stephanie says
You are SO lucky to have a handy Hubby. I can honestly say I don’t have one of those so this could ge very interesting! It’s a big project so we are going to call in some friends to lend a hand. 🙂
Kaci says
Good luck to you, I love watching those shows but cringe at being able to do it myself. =)
Stephanie says
I will admit to being equal parts nervous and excited! This is the biggest project I’ve ever tackled!
Jo says
Good Luck! Can’t wait to see all the changes!
Stephanie says
Thanks so much!! I will take all the good luck wishes I can get! Thankfully Home Depot Canada has been very patient with my million or so questions so far 🙂
