I’m not exactly Martha Stewart but I do think I know how to throw together a pretty decent party. Well, I thought I did, that is until my girls and I had the the opportunity to see how Beaches Negril Resort pulls together their Beach Party. Set right beside the ocean each and every week, this resort brings the “Wow” factor and throws a shindig that even Martha herself would be impressed with.
As my girls and I left our suite we paused for a moment to take in a deep breath of the sweetly scented and humid air of Jamaica. It was time to make our way to the first official event of our #BeachesMoms trip; The Beach Party. Not exactly sure which way to go, we simply followed the sounds of the music wafting through the air, listening for the familiar sounds of the ocean as we went. We traced out way along the shoreline until we came across the kind of party you only ever see in the movies. Large round tables decked out in white table cloths, square tables off to the side, tiki torches and long banquet tables laden down with food! All of this set up on the softest white sand. Then there was table after table of food all spread out for the guests to sample and enjoy.
Instead of grabbing my camera to capture the scene like I should have, I snapped just a couple of shots on my iPhone, then grabbed a table with friends and a great big plate. It had been a long day of travel, we were hungry and it was time for the culinary adventure to begin!
We dove in; jerk chicken, an entire table dedicated to salads, spaghetti, fish, rice and peas, potato wedges, hot dogs, corn, far too many foods to list! Simply put there was something for everyone, even the pickiest of eaters. I loved the fact that although not every item was hot, the self serve style was quick, plentiful, and you never felt crowded while browsing the mind boggling number of choices.
We sat, ate, chatted and relaxed right there beside the ocean. Servers coming by often to see if we needed anything at all. I had a “someone needs to pinch me moment” as the little people danced to the steel drum music and mix of popular tunes, and I marvelled that a mere six hours before I had been scraping snow off my windshield!
Following a trip to the dessert buffet the entertainment started. “JAMROCK” began with a bang as Leroy walked on a bed of nails and wowed the crowd with his fire eating performance. Do not try this at home!
He was followed up by a Limbo Dancer and some very brave volunteers eager to take the stage and learn some Limbo skills of their own. (Don’t worry, I can guarantee there is not a single picture of me doing the Limbo, Well, at least not from this trip!) There was still time for a quick Reggae lesson for all, and perhaps one last trip to the dessert buffet before calling it a night. We were full, smiling and very tired. Our first evening was drawing to a close and my girls had already decided, Beaches Resort Negril Resort and Spa was awesome. I couldn’t wait to see what adventures awaited us the next day!
