When my girls were wee, Easter Morning was all squeals and sunshine. Running from behind doors, to peeking under couches. Skipping while searching and competing to see who could find the most Easter Eggs. I frantically tried to capture the moment with my camera, while their Dad straggled behind grinning and rubbing his eyes; both of us wondering how two little people could possibly be so wide awake before the sun even rose. I do love my sleep and won’t miss that crack of dawn wake up call, but this year as I look ahead to my Easter Sunday, I feel a little melancholy. Easter is about to be all kinds of different. No big Easter Bunny thrill for our house, my babies are too grown up! Sniff. So what’s a Mama in the ‘burbs to do to make the transition and keep the magic of the giant bunny alive. Create some new traditions of course!
Here’s the plan for our Twisted Easter Weekend:
* We are going to head to the grocery store and create a food basket to donate to the local food bank. Perhaps we can create a little sweetness for another family who needs a little magic this weekend.
* We are going to get our bake on! Yup, I see some quality family time as we whip up some Mini Egg Shortbread. *Recipe to follow!
*The Easter Bunny may be dead, but the hunt must go on! There will be chocolate!
*We will dive into some Easter Nail painting!
*We are going to continue the tradition of Chinese Easter! For the last few years both my Parents and my In Laws have been Snow Birds, living the good life in Florida, over the Easter Weekend. It’s just been my family of four, my SassySis plus her little brood, and my Sweet Grandma. Just because things are very, very different this year I don’t think we should stop this new tradition. We will be feasting on Chinese Food Monday night and raising a toast to GG. We miss you Grandma.
I hope however you are celebrating this Easter Weekend, you find some time for family and friends, and a moment to reflect on how truly blessed we all are.
Happy Easter!

LOVE the ideas! I’m 27 and my Mom will still do an egg hunt with my sister and I and our sig others…it sounds weird, but it’s really special to us!

Good for you all with the traditions. We hide eggs here at home and though older boy has grown out of it, we still get him laughing with a “challenger egg hunt” in the backyard–we try to stump him with crazy hiding places for the eggs.

This is the first year we won’t dye eggs and have an egg hunt. My older son is with his girlfriend and my younger son says he just wants the basket with candy. But I’m still deeply grateful for time with them both.

Oh I think you have found the perfect solution to the kids growing up thing. Your Grandmother will be with you I have no doubt. Great idea on the food basket. Happy Easter. Hug B

Happy Easter, it sounds like you have a fun weekend planned with your family. My hubby is working all weekend so our Easter is going to be very quiet this year.

Happy Easter to you and your family!! I love that you have a new tradition to carry on, being an only child I have no extra family so it was just my family, but now that my girls are grown and on their own, this is going to be the first year that it’s just going to be me and my hubby, at least it’s going to be quite..lol and I didn’t have to spend tons of money
