Not. I don’t usually make “resolutions”, but I do try and start out the New Year in a happy place and set a few loosey goosey goals for myself. There’s a reason for this; failure plays an awfully big part in my normal resolution game. Here it is, January the 9th, and I have already broken more resolutions then most people make! Clearly, I am not the Rock Star of all things resolution.
I will not curse in front of the children. This one quickly ended when I got cut off by some Jackass in traffic. Yes Mom, if you are here, you read that right. I said Jackass, out loud, in front of my child. She’s 16 now, she laughed, and then agreed with me. He was an ass.
Resolution to eat healthier breakfasts? (cause muffins are the devils food) Killed that one with a big old piece of chocolate cake. Cake for breakfast? Nothing better. Hey, at least it wasn’t a muffin?
Get more exercise! But it snowed, like a lot, and it’s cold so you know. Yuck. Maybe movies are like exercise? If you do watch a lot of movies, they call it a movie marathon, therefore watching movies might be the very best kind of exercise! Nailed it.
Get more sleep. Except on nights when the kids have Dance, Cheer or Volleyball, or when the Ducks play. or if Jimmy Fallon looks super funny, so yah, no sleep. Sleep is for the weak. Solider on and chug some coffee!
Maybe I will start this resolution thing again in February. Maybe.
Pass the chocolate.
Happy New Year!

I did a diff this yr, my daughter got married in a small intimate ceremony. Time crunch and funds 1 month 1/2 to get ready we decided imitiate family only with a few of their friends. So no aunts uncles or cousins. Yes we knew this would make people sad but family always understands. Well surprisingly my SIL and BIL reacted so disrespectful towards us, we tried for over a week to reach out to them, ignored. They finally talked to my daughter but to tell them how disappointed they were and then refused to ask about her dress or pictures. Their negativity was effecting me to the point of not sleeping. Especially when I would go help them at the drop of a hat when they call. So I decided my resolution is no negativity is allowed in our house. When they decide to grow up then they are welcome here anytime. My side of the family were amazing and so kind to my daughter about it all. So proud of them.

I’ve long been a believer that resolutions shouldn’t start until February anyway!

Now this is an idea I could get behind!

All I can say, you are NOT alone by any means.. My local gym is jammed packed and I can guarantee that by Feb 1 it will be back to a ‘normal’ pace.. I have even restarted my own resolution to cut out sugary snacks every day this year 😉
Stephanie says
Amazing to hear the gym will be back to “normal” by February! I knew I wasn’t the only one breaking those resolutions early! 🙂

I adore your brutal honesty and humour Stephanie. I love that your blog is so relatable as it makes everyone feel normal in this world of crazy, unrealistic expectations.
Stephanie says
Oh thank you so much for your comment Jacki! The world is full of picture perfect families and people, I am most certainly not one of them and do try my best to tell it like it is! Hope you have an amazingly normal week 🙂
