Cheer competition last weekend, Dance Competition next, then Cheer again? Sometime soon is the illusive and coveted Spring Break. Anyway you cut it over the next couple of months we’re hitting the road in a big way. One of the biggest drawbacks of road trips and hotel stays is the lack of healthy food on the go. Keeping everyone happy and fuelled is a necessity if you are going to keep your kids (and yourself) from having a complete melt downs when you hit the road. One solution, quality snacks that do no not bore!
Here’s my list of 20 fave snacks on the go!
1. Bagel Bites (nothing hits the spot like a fresh bagel with some cream cheese, but this can be messy! Prepare your bagels before you leave home and cut up into about 8 pieces. Keeps fresh in your cooler all day long)
2. Veggie Sticks: Carrots, peppers, zucchini and celery cut into sticks and stored in ice cold water
3. Homemade Granola Bars
3. Almonds
4. Oranges (peeled and ready to go!)
5. Apples
6. Cheese sticks (I recently found a Havarti Cheese Stick that I love!)
7. Yogurt Tubes (frozen since they are a hit either frozen or just cold)
8. Hummus and Pita Bread and/or Crackers
9. Rice Cakes
10. Banana Chips
11. Your favourite Homemade Muffins
12. Air popped Popcorn portioned out in Ziplock bags
13. Cereal Bars
14. Trail Mix. I make my own with dried fruits, Shreddies, Cheerios, nuts and a sprinkling of chocolate chips
15. Yummy Earth Organic Vitamin C Lollipops (oh yes, that’s a thing, and they are kind of awesome)
16. Arrowroot cookies (because you are never too old for an Arrowroot cookie!)
17. GoGo Squeez Apple Sauce
18. Grapes (sometimes frozen!)
19. Frozen Juice Boxes (They work to help keep that cooler cold and by the time you are ready to go home they are just the right temperature)
20. Bottles of Water.
*Don’t forget to throw in the WetWipes, some paper towels and a plastic bag to collect the garbage throughout your road trip. Enjoy your snacks and your adventure!

I’ve never heard of Yummy Earth Organic Vitamin C Lollipops before. It’s essential to have plenty of snacks to keep everyone happy, drinks too since you do tend to dry out on long road trips. Thanks for sharing your list 🙂

I am so guilty of living off fast food when we are on the road. Note to self: pack better snacks!
