Winter does not want to leave. The kids will have absolutely nothing to do with hanging outdoors, and who can blame them when it’s dark, grey and dismal outside. The house feels cramped, crazy, and a wee bit wild! So what’s a Mama in the Suburbs to do if she is to survive until the lazy days of Summer rolls around? Pull out some movies, throw a bunch of pillows on the floor and prepare to bake up some #GoldfishSmiles. Yes, I said bake up some #GoldfishSmiles! No movie experience is complete without some stellar snacks to go with it! So on the menu this past weekend was a fun and fabulous twist on a family favourite; Goldfish Bits & Bites! They’re crunchy, zesty, satisfying and dare I say a lot more fun than your usual snack. Insider tip; they are also ridiculously easy to make and can be prepared way ahead of time and stored in an air tight container until you need them! Here my friends is my sure fire recipe to bake up some #GoldFishSmiles, sure so be a crowd pleaser for anyone who’s 3 to 93!
GoldFish Bit’nBites
- 1/2 med. box Shreddies
- 1/2 med. box Rice Chex
- 1 lb. Salted Mixed nuts -optional
- 1/2 large pkg. small Salted Pretzels ** I prefer the sticks
- 1 bag Goldfish Crackers (at least 1 cup)
- 1/2 lb. Butter
- 3 1/2 Tbs. Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 Tbs. Garlic Powder
- 1 Tbs. Onion Powder
- 1 1/4 Tbs. Seasoning Salt
Directions:
Preheat oven to 250.
Mix the cereals, nuts, pretzels and Goldfish Crackers together in a very large bowl. Melt the butter in a pot on fairly low heat. Add in the Worcestersire and seasonings and mix well. Put about 1/2 the cereal mix in a large roasting pan and spread with half the sauce. Cover with the rest of the cereal mixture and then spread the rest of the sauce over. Mix well! Spread evenly on two large baking sheets and place in the oven. STIR EVERY 15 MINUTES! Bake for at least 1 hour. Should be done but test for taste and crispiness. Will crispen even more when cold (if it hasn’t been eaten by then).
What you end up with is a fun, fabulous treat that you kids, and yes your Hubby will ask for again and again!
Serve in sweet little containers with your drink of choice. Looking to add even more spice? Try shaking a little Hidden Valley Ranch dry seasoning right on tip. The flavour is divine!!
