When it’s cold and grey out. When the kids have nagging coughs, and new complaints about teachers and homework. When there are endless carpools and a ridiculous number of obligations to attend to, and my insomnia is back, it’s not always easy to feel joyful. Actually, it’s all to easy to slip into a state of tired. A place of quiet routine that has you living by the calendar, hanging on by your fingernails until the next vacation. This is not my happy place, and not how I want to spend my days. So today, a reality check, a small list of blessings, reasons to be joyful, to smile. A tiny reminder to be thankful for the clutter and the chaos because one day not long from now this house will be quiet and still, and I will look back in awe in how I did it all…..
Today I will be thankful for the carpool that helps me get my kiddo across the city three times a week.
I will laugh, instead of cry, when my 100 lb. puppy tracks mud all over my hardwood floor.
Tonight I will skip cooking dinner, and be thankful for a good old fashioned pizza night.
I will not drive myself crazy trying to figure out how to be at a Dance Competition and a Cheer Competition at the same time this weekend, I will forgive myself and just do the best I can. There will be more competitions!
I will remember that these crazy days of parenting are fleeting, a short blip on the radar of life, and try and soak up every moment with my girls.
Today I will be thankful for a lukewarm coffee and dreamy conversation with my adoring Hubby. I am blessed.
I will look forward to vacations on the horizon and hazy summer days, but not too much….because I need to remember to be thankful for today too.
Hope you can all find your reason to be thankful today….

I’m guilty of being too busy and I find myself complaining of stupid things which at the end of the day weren’t that big of a deal! I really need to be grateful/thankful and look at the positive versus the negative. Cheers

I try to be thankful, that sounds like I’m complaining just saying that! I listen to a radio program that one of the announcers always says every morning that he’s thanking God for a new day. And so I say that to myself and try to recalibrate and be more thankful and count my blessings.

Love this. Sometimes the days are just so hard and it’s hard to see the positive in things but there are positives. You just have to find them. 🙂

I so often forget to be thankful for what I have. I don’t have a house or money, but I do have beautiful children, beautiful grandchildren, a roof over my head and food to eat; for that I am thankful! Thanks for the reminder!

Lovely!
Some days require the extreme embracing of the itty-bittiest of those “little things” everyone is alway gong on about.
So glad, you have lots of little things when you need them the most. : )

My kids and I have been listening to the audio version of the book Pollyanna. I don’t know if you’re familiar with it, but she plays the “glad” game in the book, and it keeps reminding me to be thankful for the here and now.

We all have days when we need to remind ouselves what we are thankful for! Sometimes a few quiet moments to reflect on these is what’s required to ground ouselves. I’m thankful for the childhood memories of now grown children, for their successes, happiness and well being. For the laughter of our grandchildren the last time we spent together! What you are doing now is making these wonderful memories….enjoy!

Hi There, I think you answered your own questions…. My kids are all grown and even my grandchildren are grown… Time is just flying by… My advice is to relax and enjoy this special time with your kids… Once they are grown and have their own lives, you will give anything to have some of those days back… I’m retired and I’ll admit that I do love it. BUT—I am always a little jealous of young mothers like you who are stressed and crazy while raising your kids…. Wish I could go back there!!!!!! You ARE BLESSED.
Hugs,
Betsy
