I am naive. I honestly thought when my girls got a little bit older life would slow down to a leisurely pace. I was positive since I had survived life with two little ones and we had entered the stage of life with two teenage girls, that our life would slow down. I was wrong. Very, very wrong. Apparently life just keeps getting busier. With one daughter in Grade 8 and the other in High School, the busy, almost frantic factor in this house is at an all-time high. Cheer Team, Volleyball practices, Dance Team, Puppy Classes for the giant Great Dane pup, time with friends, a little volunteer work, a lot of real life stuff; there’s just no pressing pause on this crazy life in the suburbs. So this week, when my SassyHubby waltzed in the door with a sly look on his face and suggested we drop everything and have a Date Night, I just about cried!
Was I interested in flowers, a long three course dinner and maybe a romantic movie? Um, yes! I have to admit, SassyHubby asking me out in the middle of the week for no reason at all made my heart pound a little faster. Butterflies? Check!
We agreed we would have to tell the kids “Nope, you are staying in tonight and looking after the dog.” They would have to take a pass on extra curricular actives and the clincher, we had to be out the door in 30 minutes to make our dinner reservation.
So what did I do? The motivated Mom thing.
Ran around like a crazy person.
Threw my little black dress in the dryer to “dewrinkle”, cause I’m all kinds of classy like that.
Whipped up a quick pasta dinner for the girls.
Fed the puppy.
Drilled my girls about any homework.
Did the dishes. Why? I don’t know why. It’s what I do. I hate coming home to a messy kitchen counter.
Washed my face. Prepped for the fastest clean up ever!
Said a small prayer of thanks to the makers of Dry Shampoo!
Sprayed a cloud of perfume and ran on through it.
Added enough make-up to hide the dark circles.
Slipped into that “dewrinkled” dress and noticed my spikey legs? Gross!
Shaved legs in sink with my Schick Intuition razor as all fabulous women in a rush do.
Added my tall black boots.
Met SassyHubby at the door with three minutes to spare.
Date night ready in under 30 minutes.
Winning.
A night out with my SassyHubby? The best thing ever.
Note to self. We simply must do this more often.

You’re so lucky because my husband would never come up with something spontaneous. Unless he finds some kind of car racing on TV and that’s his spontaneous night planned. Kudos for being able to do everything in 30 minutes. Next time have the kids cook supper and do the dishes and you’ll be done even quicker !
