Since the Euro began weakening considerably against the Dollar, you’ll probably find yourself contemplating a trip to Europe this summer. However, because Europe is such a popular destination, depending on which country you go to, it can be very expensive, but there’s hope for all of us! Here are the top 7 destinations where you will see your dollars go further.
1.Greece
Ancient ruins, blue waters and whitewashed villages are all well within reach this year. Whether you want to explore Greece’s busy capital or seek sanctuary in its quieter isles, you’ll be able to fly to Athens for a reasonable price.
2.Portugal
Portugal is an ideal destination for those seeking sun, fine wines and culture on a budget. The country is an affordable paradise for food lovers, with three course dinners including wine being available for around $25. Who said you couldn’t dine like a king!
3.Latvia
Despite Riga gaining the tourist spotlight in the last few years, Latvia is still considered a hidden gem destination for most tourists. Budget travellers will be happy to hear that despite the country making the Euro its official currency, prices like hotels, restaurants and activities remain lower than elsewhere in Europe.
4.Lithuania
Known for its vast forests, rivers, seaside resorts and medieval history, this somewhat undiscovered nation is on the rise. A city that is adorned with quirky, unforgettable and often beautiful charms, Lithuania should be on everyone’s travel to-do list this year. And with European airlines offering affordable flights to the capital city from within Europe, a weekend jaunt to Lithuania is attainable for all.
5.Croatia
With its stunning coast line, Mediterranean climate, historic cities, and welcoming hospitality of locals, Croatia is a pleasure to visit. With airfares from a vast range of European cities growing ever more affordable, you won’t have to think twice about booking your flights to Croatia. Hop on a plane and you’ll be stepping back in time to a place with old world traditions and quaint alleyways in a matter of hours.
6.Slovenia
Slovenia still flies under the radar as a tourist destination and continues to be a budget-friendly destination for travellers in terms of accommodation and food costs. With fairy-tale castles, snow-capped mountains, spectacular coastlines, and an unrivalled food and wine scene, this is the perfect place for a weekend getaway.
7.Italy
When you think of Italy, you probably think of pizza, Pavarotti and the Pope. What probably wouldn’t spring to mind is Italy being one of the most affordable destinations to visit this summer given its recent influx of ultra-low airfares. Keep costs down by exploring the local dining hot-spots, they tend to be much cheaper than the tourist traps.
You can experience the wonderful cultures and landscapes of breathtakingly beautiful European countries without burning a hole in your pocket. So, what are you waiting for?

WOW If you’ve been to all these places, I’m so jealous. I wish I could travel but it’s really difficult for me to get around

I’ve been to Greece several times and I adore Athens with all the marvellous architecture which really is stunning and it’s a beautiful country for a holiday.
Though I lived in Europe most of my life I never made it to Italy which is a huge shame. My cousin’s son is in Rome now and posting lots and lots of photos, another great place to visit (he reckons the Gelato alone is worth the trip!)
