Why does winter last for months on end and the summer fly by in the blink in an eye? Is it the heat? Perhaps it’s because I’m one of those “crazy Mama’s” who prefers to have their kids home for the summer. I like the house bursting with life. Maybe it’s just a sign of the times; life is busy and the world won’t slow down for anyone.
This summer, more than ever before, I’m struggling to find balance between my work and “real life”. I know this is because what I really want to be doing is spending every possible moment with my girls. Have you had this feeling? The Mommy guilt is overwhelming.
At the halfway mark of the summer I’m a jumble of emotions and don’t quite know what to do with myself. Suddenly hit with the realization that both of my “babies” will be starting high school in just over a month, I want, no I need someone to slow down the clock. Big old reality check; that’s not going to happen. Pity party for one? Not quite. What I will be doing for the next 30 days is squeezing in as many adventures, laughs and memory making moments as possible. That sounds more like it.
Today I’m going to try and let the guilt go and just be thankful. Thankful for the concerts and the late nights. Thankful for the pool parties and beach days. Thankful for ice cream for dinner and movie marathons. I’m truly thankful my girls still think I’m cool enough to shop with, travel with, lean on and confide in. Today I will just be thankful for all the summer things.

My mother is exactly like you in the way of doing as much with me as she could and I remember our long talks, shopping, going to theme parks and going up north to the family cottage. Most important just spending time together and I swore I would be the same kind of mom.

I so get that. I have thekidsin ball but the rst of our summer is unplanned. There are no camps. I’ve been playing with the boys this year more. I think biking is on the plans for this week.

I’m starting to have those same feelings about wishing the clock would stop! My daughter is entering junior high & I already feel like time is slipping by so fast. We’ve had a great summer so far; this week is the lake & shopping so I will enjoy it with her with no complaints.

Well said my friend! Would it help if I told you there were 38 more days? Lol.😊

Love your post. Instead of complaining – we should be appreciating life around us.

That was a lovely read, thank you. I was always amazed when my children were going to school that other parents were dreading the summer holidays (and we only had 6 weeks!) but I loved & enjoyed every minute of the holidays.

I always think the summer will be easier to slow down and enjoy time with my kids, but that isn’t always the case. I think we are all just doing the best we can. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
