Turks and Caicos: Little Water Cay, locally known as ‘Iguana Island’ is a small island, or cay, in the Turks and Caicos. It’s also home to the few remaining Rock Iguanas, an endangered species, that used to cover most of the islands in the Turks and Caicos.
What You Will See:
*On this short little trip you will spot Iguanas galore! They will walk right up to you, and truly are not camera shy, but please don’t feed them.
*You will also see the incredibly calm, crystal clear, bluest of blue ocean and two sets of boardwalks. You can find a guide to walk you around or explore the small island on your own. The two boardwalks reach both the north and south side of the island. You are asked to stay on the boardwalks to observe the endangered lizards.
How To Get There:
*Via a privately booked boat tour or kayak from the Leeward Marina area on Providenciales
(Big Blue Unlimited, Caribbean-Crusin or Island Tours from Beaches Resort)
Insider Tips:
*Bring your flip flops or water shoes as you may have a chance to walk along the waters edge and there are some little burrs in the water that might catch you unaware.
*If you are kayaking over be sure to wear lots of sunscreen and pack some water. There’s no shade on the island.
*Take your time and walk the whole trail, keeping an eye on the waters edge, you might get lucky and see some incredible marine life. Stingrays!
