From November 3rd – 10th a unique event is taking place in Kissimmee Florida; it’s the World Food Championships, and it just might be a foodies dream come true. The World Food Championships is the largest competition in food sport, yes , it’s a food sport! Champions of previous events from all over the world convene in the charming Celebration located in Kissimmee, Florida, to compete for their chance to win the ultimate food crown and a share of $300,000!
This is an event like none I’ve seen before.
The charming town of Celebration was transformed into a hot spot for Chefs, media, foodies, or just those looking to try something new. Set up on the main street was the Kenmore Kitchen Arena, featuring $400,000.00 worth of brand new Kenmore Kitchen Appliances!
All are welcome and encouraged to meander the streets. take in the competition and of course try some of the incredible foods being produced by some of the most talented Chefs in the world. I was thrilled to find out I was in Kissimmee on the day of the great bacon competition. Yes, bacon. The entire town smelled yummy? It was bacon nirvana. Other categories in the World Food Championships stretch far and wide and included such areas as seafood, baking, BBQ, Chilli, Pasta, Sandwich, Burger and Dessert.
These competitions, they are very much like what you see on some of your favourite TV cooking shows (and they will be creating a reality TV show based on this weeks events!). Competitors have their assigned ingredient and access to a fully stocked pantry. When given the “GO” the clock starts and it’s on!
The “Cheferre” watches those cooking very closely, does the odd interview and our chefs work frantically to get their gorgeous dishes completed and to the judges table before time runs out. After a blind taste test, best dishes move ahead to a final round to fight for the win. So much pressure for the Chefs, so much fun for us!
Other events taking place over the course of our visit included live cooking demonstrations, the “Rock City” band played on the Main Stage, and the World Cocktail Experience was in full force. Oh my. This is a tent you don’t want to miss!
Do you think you have what it takes to be a World Food Champ? More like me and think it might be fantastic to grab some friends and head down to Florida to be in the heart of the action, perhaps watch some live cooking demos and munch on some unforgettable food? Click on over to the World Food Championships website to see who will take the crown this year, and how you can start planning your trip to be there for next years event! You can’t go wrong with a trip to Kissimmee!
