It seems like lately all I do is drive. Cajole kids through homework. Complain about the weather. Make dinner, clean up dinner, whine because I don’t know what to make for dinner. And stress about the little things. As I’m driving around and complaining, a little realization. I’m feeling like an old chick. Nothing could have driven this home more then when I realized I am missing some stuff from “the olden days”
I miss:
Full serve gas stations. Pumping your own gas is for chumps.
The days when grocery stores used to bag your groceries and even help you to the car.
When all the stores were closed on Sundays. Sure an extra day of shopping is fun, but remember when all those stores were closed and we were forced to do “stuff” with our friends and family? Good times.
Date night; When we went to the movie rental place, browsed the aisles and picked a DVD for the weekend.

Quality cartoons. I miss Bugs Bunny and old school Donald Duck. They just can’t be beat.
I miss when weekends were unscheduled, unhurried and stress free. But now as an adult I wonder, was that just my parents doing all the adulting and letting us kids live life to the fullest and worry free? All this whining isn’t to say I don’t appreciate ordering groceries on-line, Netflix and the new Disney sensations that kept my kids busy every Sunday morning. I think it just means I’m reminiscing like an old chick.

So many good times. The full serve gas stations, especially in the winter! Totally worth that extra few dollars in tip to keep my hands toasty.

I also miss unscheduled life, sometimes I think the world became one big To-Do-List, no time to stop and say something nice.

I definitely miss some of the things from ‘the old days’. I used to love the bonding time a weekend movie would give. Made me a little sad when Rogers closed their movie rental places.

I actually prefer to bag my own groceries, one time I heard a crack and I said to the person I think you just broke my eggs, she refused to even check so I pulled them out checked and sure enough she broke them. Only place I wish they would bag is at Costco.

I definitely miss stores being closed Sundays and having my parents do the “adulting” while I had freedom to focus on my own stuff. But there are lots of wonderful things we have now that we didn’t have then, and with a little creativity and effort, maybe I can bring back some of those “good old days” things for my family.

I know I miss bike riding hide and go seek.

I find it interesting when my kids experience something from my childhood like a cartoon or toy. Everything old is new again in my ways, even in our crazy, technologically-infused times.

I miss the days when I could watch my babies sleepig, when I had to take them to sports and make them pick up their toys. Now they have left the nest and they are missed.

I do have to say I did like it when stores were closed on Sundays and you had family time/Sunday dinners.

The “old” days and today both have their positives and their negatives, that’s for certain!

It is interesting how we stop at certain points in our lives to look back. usually when we are feeling stressed by the present. There are so many things we miss but so many wonders yet to come

I had to laugh on reading this post. I for one miss lots of things from the ‘old days’, especially the freedom children had to simply go out and play hopscotch or whatever with their friends on the street. A lot more vehicles on the roads these days and a lot drive way too fast. Then there’s also the danger of predators to worry about, which wasn’t the same when I was a child. Sure it’s nice having internet, tablets etc but I do miss that freedom.
