50 shades of hell?
Do you have any idea how difficult it is to pick the perfect shade of grey?
One that is not too dark. Might as well paint the walls black!
A shade that isn’t too light. Those just look white on the wall.
Oh and for goodness sake, one that is not too blue! Why do so many shades of grey…turn blue? It’s like a really mean magic trick.
After four (hangs head in shame) trips to the paint store and one ridiculous google search for “how to pick a grey paint that doesn’t look freaking” blue?” I realized I am not alone. Nope, I was not nearly alone:

Gah. So after those four jaunts to the paint store and 13 swatches slathered on my wall. Here is my real world advice.
Google. Choose with your brain, not your eyes! If you are looking for a grey or gray with NO blue. Find one described to have taupe or beige undertones. Pick up three of those paint samples, put those babies on the wall and then go for it!
The winner in this house? Benjamin Moore’s Silver Fox for the Kitchen and Lockport Gray for the media room. Pray for me. I really, really don’t want to go back to the paint store again. This is getting embarrassing.

So I just went through this with my shutters. I picked a colour that I though looked like dark grey, but everyone else is calling it brown. Never knew brown and grey could be so close! (I also think I may be partially colour blind…I know lots of people say that, but my brother and dad are)

I hear you! I went through this too and I have really light purple walls in my bedroom to prove it. (That look grey most of the time to me, at least) So when it was time to choose a hallway colour that was light grey, I asked for lots of help at the paint store 🙂 Hope it turned out how you wanted it to!

I hope all the best went with your kitchen! We never painted the kitchen in my house before but I hope someday that I will paint and decorate my own house to my liking 🙂 I love the wall decoration! Cupcakes do make people happy! I know they’d make me happy!

It is so amazing how many hues can fall under each individual colour – there really are 40 shades of grey and then some!

I found grey to be the hardest colour to match to the rest of my house, but once you find that shade? Perfection! Good luck to you!

Good Luck on your painting project and hopefully no more trips to the paint store, can’t wait to see the finished work, I need to paint my kitchen and I’m stumped on what colours to choose, so many colours but then like you said they all look different on the wall!!

It is so hard to pick the right colour. We choose a blue/grey on purpose, but now my walls are blue. Just blue.

Hahahaha!
Sorry, didn’t mean to laugh – but I know EXACTLY what you are talking about! There is no shame to hitting the paint store multiple times…you’d rather end up with a color you love than one you can live with.
For the record we went with Benjamin Moore Smoke Embers. It seems to be gray enough without being TOO gray OR blue. At least for the lighting in this house.
Good luck!

It has been a long time since we have picked out paint colors but I do remember that coming up with the perfect one is not easy!!! Wishing you luck……

We want to paint the kitchen gray so going to be doing this struggle in the fall!

Hope you were successful with your end choices of paint. Don’t forget to let us all know if these did turn out grey and weren’t blueish in colour – would be handy for us all no doubt. I have grey on my walls but I think it looks greenish 🙁

Good luck! It is amazing how even swatches can look so different from a complete wall or room. We discovered how many beige paints can turn peach. Grays look gorgeous.
