To the coward that rear ended my 17 year old daughter,
Did you sleep well last night? Did you dream over and over again about that car you smashed into and then just drove away? What kind of a man are you?
Friday night at about 5pm I got a phone call from one of my daughters very best friends. “Stephanie“….the words just started pouring out….”we were sitting at a stop light. We were completely stopped. The person in front of us was doing an illegal u-turn and we were talking about it and then BANG. We got hit from behind!”
Deep breath Mama. “Are you Okay. Is she Okay?” Don’t sound panicked, you sound panicked, slow down, I thought, You are the the Mom.
“Yes, we’re ok.”
“Where are you?, Hun”
“We pulled into the Five Guys parking lot. He followed. Got one look at us. Then sped away.”
I could hear the stress. Hear the tears in the edge of her voice. By this time my Husband could see the fear, panic, anxiety in my eyes. I was pointing, waving, he was already grabbing his car keys and putting on his shoes. “Stay there, we’re on our way.”
The girls were only 5 minutes from home. By the time SassyHubby and I arrived, someone had stopped to check on the two forlorn girls in the parking lot. They had witnessed that *person* speed away.
I needed to see my “baby”. She was fine, her girlfriend, fine. The car? Meh. It’s just a car. A little scratched. Not even that bad. SassyHubby called a friend who is also a Police Officer. This tiny collision ~ it was now deemed a hit and run.
So to my questions. WHO DOES THIS??? What kind of person rear ends a car in the middle of a busy intersection, hits two young girls and just TAKES OFF? Shame on you. Did he do this because we have a brand new Lincoln and he was afraid he couldn’t afford to fix it? Does he have a record? Is he just an ass who saw two young girls in the car and thought “screw you”, you’ll never catch me! Was he drinking? Texting? High? Or just a horrible excuse for a human being. You see, now that I knew the kids were okay, I was all kinds of Mama Bear angry.
We gave the girls hugs, wiped a couple of tears, and sent them back out into the world. When you fall off a horse you get right back on right? Life goes on, but this Mama was still puzzled, disappointed in man-kind and angry. Such a stupid thing.
This little event. I found it robbed my of my sleep. It had me tossing, turning. Why? Such a little thing, and the kids were fine. I realized I was angry that it could have been so much worse. Frightened at the thought that those girls could have been catapulted into that busy intersection, that they might of been badly hurt. I was disgusted with the man in the black SUV who’s paint marks are still on my bumper.
Then I decided instead of being angry, I needed to be thankful. Thankful that I didn’t raise human beings like that “man”. Thankful that I raised girls who take responsibilities for their actions. Thankful that I have a daughter who kept her cool, kept her foot firmly on the brake and used her defensive driving skills. Thankful that my girls weren’t hurt. Thankful that we know in the big picture there are more good people than bad, and thankful that karma will indeed get that asshat in the end, because really what other choice is there.

Wow they were really brave and now at least you know how responsible and mature she’ll be in a crisis

Aw, that really sucks. Happy to hear the girls are okay. I get really annoyed with awful drivers, but I do understand that a lot of times people are just making mistakes. Hit and run? That’s no mistake.

So sorry to hear this but happy that all are well and healthy! It’s unfortunate that there are people out there like this but karma is true and karma is real. Here’s to being raised and raising our little ones to know the difference between right and wrong!

Oh dear. I hope the girls are okay. And I hope they find the guy who took off. That’s all kids of low.

This post made me angry just reading it. What a POS! Too bad nobody had a dash cam that would have recorded the accident. I’m glad the girls were ok. That’s the most important thing.

This would tick me off heck I got ticked off just reading it. Thank goodness your girls are alright. Maybe someone in that area where it happened has it on camera. A lot of homes have outside cameras I would ask allllllll around.

I’m glad the girl are Ok! My daughter was rear ended when she was 18 by stopping at a yellow light. She was very upset had whiplash but otherwise not hurt., the driver was very nice to her. The RCMP was something else. He told her the damage was under $1000 so she could fill out a report at the RCMP station. She told him no the damage is over a $1000 and we could do the report right now. He said well It’s not over $1000. Anyway he agree to do the report. I though my daughter good. The damage was over $4000 and the car was a right off. The whole trunk was destroy and I was not impress with the RCMP.

Wow, I don’t understand how people do something like this and just drive away. I have a lot of words I can use to describe this person, but I’ll refrain.
Really happy to hear the girls are okay though.

Sorry that happened. 🙁 Poor kids! I am glad they were not hurt.
What a jerk! It would be nice if someone came forward with helpful information.

It is truly disgusting how some can create destruction to another’s property and just walk (run or drive) away as if it never happened

Horrible! You never know though…
My brother had the security camera ripped right off the front of his house. He had the recorded footage to prove it. It showed a good look of the man and the unique truck he was driving. A month later, my uncle saw the truck in my brother’s neighborhood. He pulled into the driveway to block him in and called the police. The guy confessed to doing it and they got him.
So you never know. Keep a lookout for a scuffed black Lincoln.
