I am WAY over packed, as a matter of fact, my SUV is stuffed to the brim.
The house sitter is tucked in safe and sound with her long, long list of instructions for the dog, the cat, the pool..you get the idea. The fridge is cleaned out to an acceptable degree, I think I have everything I need, I hope work is finally under control because this little family of mine is headed to cottage country!
Oh I really can’t begin to tell you how excited I am. The thing is, it’s just different “up north”. The smell of the pine needles, that sound of summer? Do you know the sound I mean. A kind of hum in the air. There are few places in the world that are as special to me as cottage country. My parents provided me with some pretty incredible memories growing up, water skiing, canoeing, playing in the lake until dark, learning to fish and drive boats. Hanging out with “cottage” friends. Learning to play cards. Just re-connecting as a family. If I can pass on my love of this magical place to my girls? I will somehow fell like I’ve succeeded. Winning at this crazy parenting game.
So for the next week I will do my very best to shut down this crazy social media world, to splash in the lake, canoe, roast marshmallows, take too many pictures and make some of those very special memories that I hope my girls look back on one day with gooey warm fuzzy feeling in their hearts. Wish me luck.
Take care of each other while I’m gone! I will miss you.

I went to my grandparents cottage every year and we always had a blast. Fishing, hiking, swimming and all the other fun stuff. My memories from there are all fond and my mother carries on the tradition because she inherited that cottage and now the next generation get to make fond memories.

It is so hard to unplug sometimes and just get away from it all. I am dreaming of summer in the cold winter.

I grew up on a lake, and I totally took it for granted at the time. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it and lived it, but now that I’m not living on a lake, I realize how lucky I was every time we visit Grammie and Grampie! It’s nice to have a special place to get a way to!

I agree! We went to Georgian Bay in the spring and it was incredible. Loved the peace and quiet!

I miss that I missed water sports and activities while growing up; however, happy that my daughters are having many opportunities, albeit with their friends instead of their parents. Oh well…
Have fun passing the tradition down to your daughters.
