This year my little family will head out on an epic adventure. To explore Rome, Florence, Venice and a few sweet little places in between. Consequently I have all things Italian on my mind. Italian food, drinks and yes, even movies. Are you planning a trip, dreaming about, or just love the idea of Italy? Get ready to be transported to Italy with this list of my choices for Top Ten Movies set in the heart of Italy.
Roman Holiday: A classic in black and white featuring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. The flick follows Princess Ann off on a vacation in Rome. She sneaks off to see the city alone and meets a dashing reporter. Highlights include glimpses of sites like the Spanish Steps and the Mouth of Truth.
Eat. Pray. Love: Featuring Julia Roberts as a newly divorced woman on the road to self discovery. I dare you to watch this flick and not want to book a ticket to Italy immediately.
Only You: This romantic comedy starring Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr.gives us a tour of some well known sites in the citites of Rome, Venice, Tuscany as well as the stunning Amalfi Coast.
Under The Tuscan Sun: Have you ever dreamed of packing it all in and buying your own villa in Tuscany? Diane Lane tackles just this task with a few tears and laughs along the way The scenery in this flick is stunning.
Tea with Mussolini: Set in Florence, this movie provides the opportunity to see so many of this cities timeless monuments. The story tells the tale of an illegitimate child who is raised by an Englishwoman and her friends in pre-WWII Italy.
To Rome With Love: A very, vey quirky Woody Allen movie, stick with it, it’s worth the watch for the sites alone.
The Tourist: This thriller staring Angelina Jolie and Jonny Depp was both set and filmed in Venice. Watch out for glimpses of Piazzo San Marco, Hotel Danieli as well as iconic shots of famous Venetian sites.
Angels and Demons: Tom Hanks at his best as he he flies to Rome to follows ancient clues on a heart-racing hunt through Rome. A thrilling mystery.
The Talented Mr. Ripley: Set in late 1950s, Tom Ripley is sent on an errand to Italy to retrieve a rich and spoiled millionaire playboy. When the errand fails, Ripley takes extreme measures. This clever thriller takes you on an exploration of sites all over Italy including Rome, Venice, Anzio, Palermo, Naples, Ischia, and Positano.
When In Rome: After the star of the movie Beth recklessly steals coins from the famed fountain of love she is suddenly aggressively pursued by a band of suitors. This light and silly comedy staring Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel takes us on a walk through Rome.
