Once again Monday has rolled around and I find myself startled by it. How is it Monday already? Where did the weekend go? Friday night was the usual crazy. Errands, groceries, take-out, we did manage to squeeze in a movie. The weather was gorgeous on Saturday and we enjoyed every minute. But Sunday? Sunday was a total write off. Again. Sadness. How did I let a perfectly good Sunday slip through my fingers? I spent it doing a little laundry, cleaned the kitchen, watched some TV with the fam, remembered to take the garbage our for Monday morning, but not much else. Pathetic. So today, a resolution. I must start making the most out of our Sunday’s. The way we used to before kids, before life got so damn busy. How? Effort and planning required.
Here are 5 ways I’m going to do my best to make the most of every Sunday…no matter what life throws at me.
- Stop using Sunday as a “work day”. This is not a day to be glued to the laptop or the phone. It’s a day for family. Work is banned today.
- Sunday has traditionally been a day where I must “get it ALL done”. Instead of leaving all the laundry, cleaning, shopping for school lunches for Sunday afternoon, I will shuffle a couple of those tasks to Friday. Freeing up all kinds of time and pressures felt on Sunday night.
- Carve out some time to get outside. Maybe it’s just a walk with the dog, or reading a book on the deck, but some time outside is better than none. Fresh air makes everything better.
- Have dinner plans organized. Too many Sunday afternoons are spent running to the grocery store. I may not be the best at meal planning but certainly I can have a plan for dinner one night a week. One night where our little family of four can sit down like an old fashioned family and enjoy a home cooked meal. Even better? If we can invite extended family or friends to join us for this meal.
- Start a new tradition. Perhaps it’s time to bring back game night. When we rent a cottage each summer we have the best time playing a very competitive game of Sequence. I’m not naive. I know board games won’t be met with applause and warm smiles every week, but family time should be welcomed. A board game, a movie night, a trip out to grab ice cream or coffee together. It’s just about creating some time out for family and being thankful for the smiles.
Too many days are lost making plans, or dreaming of what comes next. Here’s to taking back our Sunday’s and finding the joy in the every day.
How do you make the most of your Sunday?

For me, the meal planning is the biggest one. We live near a grocery store, but I make every effort to make sure we have groceries in the house for the entire weekend. Sure, it’s close, but you have to get ready and go, and it chops up your day. Once I realized how little time it took to plan a meal, and how much stress it avoided, I haven’t looked back to my disasterous non planning days…haha 🙂

I tried turning my Sundays into days of much needed rest but I only discovered one thing…I’m restless! LOL. So much for that idea.

I love this post *sooo* much.
Yes!
I need my Sundays back, too. (and my evenings all week, really)
I have to ask. Are you set up for a successful Sunday *this* week? I hope you are!

Best of luck on getting yourself (and the family) to enjoy ALL of your days!! We get so busy with everything, it’s nice to know that I’m not the only one. 🙂

i love using sunday for a family brunch. we get to lounge and eat & talk and re-connect without rushing through the meal. and i like the time because it doesn’t become a late evening & still gives the family plenty of time for monday prep.

Great idea. I think having one day a week to rest, reconnect with family, and reflect on what’s important, would make a big difference in my life.

what a great idea… The weekends always blur by and by Monday I have no clue where the time went….

We always feel a little over-scheduled but I find that fitting in a bit of laundry throughout the week makes it feel less overwhelming on the weekend!

A struggle for sure but worth it to your family and your own need to rejuvenate

Sunday should be family time and work should be kept at work. Weekends go by so fast best to enjoy it as Monday does creep up fast.

I know! I try to get my house all cleaned before Sunday but sometimes I feel the urge to clean. It’s a day of rest for us.

I hear you! We had banned the use of all electronics on Sundays a few year back and it was great! However, it hasn’t lasted, need to do it again.
Stephanie says
Oh what a great idea! Working in Social Media it might be hard to do all day, but at least half of Sunday could be electronics free!

I know how difficult this is, but so important. It’s a constant struggle for most of us, I think.

Amazing how the day just slips through our fingers. Time for me to be more conscience of that time.
