Do you love your hair? I can admit it, I do. I love the ability to play with up-dos, let it hang straight down, embrace my messy buns on days when I’m in a hurry, and work a fish-tail braid when I’m not. My hair is a part of my personality, who I am, even how I identify myself. I’m that tall blonde from the suburbs who has a witty blog and tells you exactly what she thinks. For better or for worse I, like many other women, am emotionally attached to my big mess of hair.
So imagine for a minute if you were suddenly faced with a situation where that hair of yours started to fall out. Perhaps, first a little bit at a time, then in handfuls, clumps. If, on top of being diagnosed with a devastating illness, you or someone you love, were also faced with these physical changes that affected how they felt about themselves. Imagine, if suddenly you or your loved one, was one of the thousands of women every year one who lost all their hair while battling cancer.
Have you watched a loved one go through this? Have you witnessed a Mother, a Grandmother, a Sister, an Aunt, or as I’ve seen all too often as of late, a teenage girl battle cancer, and as she fights, she loses her hair? It is devastating. There are no easy words to comfort her. But thankfully, there are ways you and I can get involved. There are ways we can help. I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Program. This program was created almost 10 years ago in partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society and is a national campaign that encourages people to share their strength and donate their beautiful, healthy hair or make a monetary contribution to create even more free, real-hair wigs for women who have lost their hair battling cancer. Since my hair has been colour-treated I cannot donate my hair, but the great thing is that I can still get involved and so can you!
Monetary Donation:
Many people want to participate in this program but are unable to donate their hair. There’s still a way to help! When you make a donation to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Fund 100% of the proceeds will go towards making even more real-hair wigs. Did you know the average real-hair wig costs approximately $1200.00. An expense many cancer patines do not anticipate and an added worry in an already difficult time.
Donating to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Program allows Pantene to create even more real-hair wigs at no cost to her.
Ponytail Donation:
Ready to make the cut? If you have a minimum of 8 inches of un-coloured or un-bleached hair, then you can donate your ponytail and help make a difference in a woman’s life by making her feel like herself again. What an incredible gift. For more information on donation requirements, visit www.pantene.ca.

Have you ever thought about it? Donating your own hair? Your own pony tail? 8 inches of your hair to make a difference in the life of a woman battling cancer. I have. 8 inches or 8 dollars; numbers that now resonate with me. Those numbers, that donation, can make a huge difference in the life of a woman affected by cancer. I have but since I can’t due to my hair being colour-treated, I’m so glad to have the opportunity to #Donate2Create by providing a monetary donation.
On Saturday November 12th I will be at BANG salon in Toronto with Pantene for National Donate Your Hair day to watch, applaud…cheer on the incredible women ready to make a difference for complete strangers. Fellow women who will forever be grateful for their donations. I look forward to sharing my experience with you in the coming weeks. Follow along and show your support at #Donate2Create #BeautifulLengths.
Together we can make a difference and spread the word about this great program.
Disclosure: I have partnered up with Pantene Beautiful Lengths for this partnership. As always, my opinions are 100% my own and I only partner with programs I love, prior to being contacted.

Inspiring program! Thank you for sharing.

Great idea. My mum had breast cancer and relied on wigs when her hair got thin from chemo. Anything that helps to make cancer patients feel “normal” is a blessing.
