Once again I find myself starring into the open fridge and I’m at a loss. It’s almost 5pm and I have NO idea what to serve for dinner. I have one girl who needs to be at dance and another out the door to work…soon. Good grief how does this keep happening? My choice for a fast dinner right now? Some kind of pasta with a side of cucumber, or drive-thru. Mom Fail. Does this sound familiar? No shame from me. This is reality. Life’s busy and if we don’t make a supreme effort to plan ahead dinner can easily fall by the wayside. If we are being truly honest? Not having a well balanced dinner ready to go isn’t my only “semi-regular” Mom Fail. My second biggest regular dinner disaster? Falling into the dinner rut. More often than I care to admit I end up serving the same 5 dinners on repeat. Oh hello boring over cooked chicken, plain pasta, ground beef and um leftovers? My lack of planning, reliance on expensive fast food and total dinner rut was the reason I was quite thrilled to be introduced to HelloFresh.
HelloFresh is Canada’s weekly subscription service focused on delivering well-balanced and nutritious meals makes cooking for the whole family easier and healthier! “HelloFresh’s FAMILY PLAN was created with the whole squad in mind, which means they hold back on the spice without skimping on flavour or nutrition. It’s the best way to get the entire family (even those picky eaters) into the kitchen to cook and enjoy dinner together.”
How It Works:
Step 1: Choose from a weekly menu of nutritious and tasty recipes created by the Hello Fresh culinary team. There are new choices to pick from each week.
Step 2: Take delivery of your pre-measured seasonal ingredients. Ingredients for meals are delivered on a designated day. Either Tuesdays or Wednesday in a well insulated box, right to your door. It’s kind of a thrill to have that beautiful box just show up on your door step!
Step 3: Prepare your meal by following the quick-and-easy recipe cards that come with your boxes. It’s fabulous!
What I Loved:
The planning is done for you. No fuss, no muss. You pick 3 meals that will appeal most to your family and your “What on earth are we going to have for dinner?” struggle is over.
The grocery shopping is done for you. Three full meals each week are delivered to your door. Actually for us this is the perfect number of meals. As a busy family there was no way we could count on 5 big dinners in a week. Everything you need to create your meals are included in your delivery. The only items you may need to have stocked in your pantry are salt, pepper, sugar, a good cooking oil, and butter.
HelloFresh kicked us out of our rut. Dinner was no longer chicken with a side of rice. Instead over our two weeks we feasted on;
- Pan-Seared Garlic Chicken with Crispy Broccoli and Potatoes Huancaina
- Speedy Vietnamese Steak Stir-Fry
- Tomato-Basil Bisque with Grilled Cheese Croutons
- Caramelized Onion Pizza with Goat Cheese and Arugula
- Pork Schnitzel Fingers with Parmesan Coleslaw
- Fusilli Al Forno with Beef, Homemade Marinara and Fresh Ricotta
The introduction of new recipes had us cooking together. My Husband and I turned on the music, grabbed a glass of wine and cooked. The colourful recipe cards provided were easy to follow and oh so much fun to do together. Really! What was usually a mundane and often thankless task, making dinner, was enjoyable again!
The food, without a doubt, is among the freshest we’ve ever had. We were sent the best cuts of beef and the freshest of vegetables. I was throughly impressed with the quality and amount of food delivered. The meal for four was enough for my Husband, myself and my two teen girls. On a couple of occasions we even had leftovers.
If you’re ready to make a change to the way you do dinner, if you want to get out of the dinner rut, or even if you find you are ordering fast food a little too often, you must give Hello Fresh a try!
