The backdrop to countless movies, the romantic setting to an endless number of books and a first in my series of top picks for where you should travel in 2017; Venice.
Venice Italy, one of the most romantic cities in the world, has something to offer everyone. Whether you are traveling alone, as a couple, or with your family, from the moment you arrive at the train station and walk out onto the large plaza into the heart of bustling Venice, you will be spellbound. It is at that exact moment that you realize you are have arrived at the most unique city in the world. Made up of more canals and bridges than streets, it’s the perfect place to wander, explore, immerse yourself in the winding cobblestone alleys and get lost. Take advantage of all Venice’s to offer; Take a gondola ride under the Bridge of Sighs, treat yourself to a boat tour through the Grand Canal and under the famed Rialto Bridge. Walk for miles as you explore Doge’s’Palace, seek out the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, the Saint Mark’s Basilica, and the famed Piazza San Marco. Shop tiny local markets, eat fresh pasta and homemade gelato. Have an espresso and people watch for hours in St. Mark’s Square. Just a short water taxi ride away are the brilliant islands of Murano famous for their glass, and the postcard perfect fishing village of Burano. Both are must sees when visiting Venice. Why put Venice at the top of your travel list for 2017? Beyond being packed with gorgeous art, history and architecture, the endless opportunities for the foodie, and the family friendly atmosphere, we must remember Venice is sinking. It’s slowing sinking at about an 1-2 millimetres per year. Don’t miss your chance to explore one of the most beautiful cities in the world before it disappears forever.

We loved Venice when it was just two of us. Once Q is older we’ll go back. I remember my in-laws took my sister-in-law’s family and my 8 or 9 year old nephew was fascinated with the sewers lol
