Full on confession coming up.
This weekend; I caught myself talking to the TV. Well, talking AT the TV. I wasn’t expecting a response. It’s my humble opinion that over the last few years televisions have become way too complicated and I’m over it.
Here’s the thing, I consider myself a fairly intelligent woman. I’m University educated. I’m raising two incredible kids and running my own business, I’m independent, I can do anything! ROAR! Yet when Hubby goes away for a few days I end up having a one way conversation with the TV that goes something like this:
Blue screen? Why is there only a blue screen. Huh
Oh. Okay. Power, then TV, then Cable.
Satellite. What? Why did the Satellite come on?
Input what? Input 2 or 3? GRRR
C’mon TV Just. Turn. On.
I finally got the kids off to bed and this is my “me” time! It shouldn’t be this hard to fire up the television and PVR. I know I have “This Is Us’ waiting for me in that magic box somewhere.
Ah HA! There is the picture.
Wait..where in the $@*% is the sound?
Take that and that and that and that. (wildly pressing buttons praying something will work)
Why do you HATE me? *cry
Wait..Pause…Breathe.
Woo Hoo. I did it. I have picture and sound.
Take that you fancy ass TV! I win.
Gah, I am pathetic.
Clearly I’ve just experienced a tiny glimpse into my future.
I’m destined to be the old lady with the “special” remote control.
The one with tape over all the buttons except the power, channel and volume.
Calling my children for help to work all things that use electricity.
Perhaps it’s time to start praying for voice controlled TV’s?

Is that what I need to start calling it when it happens to me all the time!

OMG! This has mad me laugh! It’s funny – I yell at the TV or other electronics but the hubby does what you do – talks it through. That photo is hilarious! I do it too – I accidentally hit the wrong button with my sausage fingers and then end up asking questions to no one in particular (unless my Samsung TV is actually listening to me … OOOooooooh!)
Stephanie LaPlante says
It’s not us. Televisions in my opinion are going backwards. It should have been many buttons in the past and one button in the future. They have it completely backwards.

I’ve been there and done that! My sons find it hilarious when they have to come and ‘fix’ the TV, I love it when the TV tells it can’t show Netflix because I don’t have an internet connection, whilst I am using the internet on my computer. 🙂

Again a really funny post and I can’t believe I’m going to say this but my mother has the same problems and my brother goes over to explain everything once again but I gave up because she gets too frustrated. Maybe you should get your own remote and have it taped now. lol

Remotes can be complicated! I can never figure them out when am at someone else’s house.

I gave up on TV and use the computer to enjoy the few shows i like, trying to get the darn TV to work just stresses me out…lol
Melinda Jana says
in all honesty, those buttons are so confusing and why is it so hard just to watch TV or the DVR or whatever?! I miss the simple days
Laurie P says
Hubby got me with the remote twice. Thinks he’s funny lol
loucheryl says
I talk to myself all the time. I don’t think I’m “loosing it” because I talk to myself. I do it remember stuff. It helps me remember. I have stuff on the go 24/7 and I feel like I’m juggling 1000 things at a time so whatever helps me keep it together is fine with me. 🙂
Jacki says
At least you didn’t have to search for the remote. 😊
Stephanie says
Don’t feel bad, it happens to everyone!

Lol . I work at a seniors facility and a resident wanted to watch the news. I said just let me see if I can work this remote , he replies “why? Don’t you have a TV at home?” Haha
kathy downey says
You are not alone we have satellite and i can never get the tv on so i just gave up….why do we need all those buttons
Judy Cowan says
Don’t feel bad, I had a similar experience about a week ago. Couldn’t get the tv to do anything I wanted it to. The dog walked over the remote and hit something. Took me a very frustrating hour to get it sorted out.
