Calling all the failures, the Bad Moms, the frustrated women of the suburbs.
Perfect mothers need not read on.
Do you ever feel like a complete and utter failure. Like every thing you touch is a total disaster? Then you will understand my feelings of last week. You are my people.
Here’s the thing. Some days I feel like ….SuperMom. Yes, like Wonder Woman! Like I’m some perfect kind of hybrid cross of Martha Stewart and Super Girl. Nothing can stop me. (Clearly, I’m easily impressed.) This is what an almost Superhero day might look like in my house:
The fridge is full of groceries.
I have a plan for dinner.
Hair looks good.
Make-up on point.
Band-aid is found at the bottom of my purse when required.
Remembered to send in that last minute field trip form.
I managed to knock out a blog post or two.
Snuck in coffee with a girlfriend.
Got the kids to their activities on time.
Made sure the kids homework was done and I’m pretty sure they were in bed before 11:30pm.
Top it all off with an entire load of laundry completed and I even did a sit up or two!!
All this equals one puffed up and proud of myself Mama.
Other days? Failure alert.
The cats nails are so long they get caught in the new carpet with every other step.
I managed to get out of the house on time, but I have chocolate on my jeans. Looks kind of like poop, but don’t worry, I checked. It’s chocolate.
Hair? It’s in a pony tail with enough dry shampoo to start the next environmental crisis.
There are no groceries in the fridge so lunch for the kids was 2 loonies and a toonie. I hope 5 bucks still gets you something at the cafeteria.
One kid was late for dance and I snapped at the other one for no reason at all. She should have just shushed.
Stress ate half a carton of Hagen Daz at 11pm and now it’s 3am and I can’t sleep.
Only exercise I got today was beating myself up…. for beating myself up.
That day was not a good day.
That day was a big fat failure landing me squarely in the feeling like a Bad Mom, losing at this parenting stuff category.
But you know what? Its normal.
Shit happens and tomorrow is another day.
Three cheers for the real moms, because this what really happens in the suburbs.

So far today is an amazing day after an amazing weekend but more often than not, I’m a bad mom because *gasp!!!*…wait for it….I make my kids go to school! At least that’s what they tell me. Oh and they had a granola bar and ice cream for breakfast this morning so I wasn’t the bad mom today!

aw you’re always a Super mom! Just sometimes it shows in organizational ways and sometimes it doesn’t – that doesn’t change how great a mom you are! Be good to yourself.

After a long, hot, tiring week….just let my kiddo have cookies for breakfast. Today is one of those “whatever goes” type of days.

Yes, this is real life for a mom. We have to applaud ourselves on those days we find the band-aid when we we need it. Count the small victories; move on from the loses.

That is so a mom move. I would never dream of it! Made me laugh there for sure.
