This weekend I took my girls to the mall in an attempt to do a one stop back to school shopping trip. Pft. Yah, that didn’t work out. Two teens and one Mama all agreeing on clothes that are appropriate for back to school and that won’t break the bank? Well, that my friends is a post for another day.
Today I need to rant about this:
When I went shopping what I did find was a cute little shirt for me. Kind of like this one!

A simple little while number with 3/4 sleeves and buttons up the front. My problem. I barely fit into the size large. Barely! Now here is the thing. I think I’m a pretty average Mama. A bit on the tall side, but average. I’m 5 ft 9” and weigh..well, none of your business what I weigh! (but the airlines aren’t asking me to step on a scale before I’m allowed on a plane. Average.)
So here is my question to you. If this average Canadian Mama is barely squeezing her bod with teeny boobs into a LARGE size shirt, what on earth are the women who are just a wee bit bigger than me, or with big boobs wearing? What the hell is going on? How did we as women come to accept this as normal!
Imagine if a clothing line was created where a medium size woman could fit into a medium size shirt. If the next size up was called Regular and the third size was deemed Normal? Sigh. Those clothing designers aren’t making it any easier to survive life in the suburbs.

There is no consistency in sizing. I have to try everything on too. For blouses and some dresses as well, they assume everyone is flat-chested. Ugh!

Super frustrating! It angers me that manufacturers are making women feel uncomfortable in this way. Especially evident when you have teenage daughters right!? Mine is 16 so I can totally relate.

I agree and what’s up with size zero that’s ridiculous.

Drives me crazy too. I assume and I could be wrong… that those too tiny sized are clothes not made in Canada? I love shopping online! but I stop at clothes for Sizing issues. Even with the size chart..it still can be off 🙁

I hear you! Why is French clothing always smaller than that of other countries for example? I find it’s getting more and more difficult to find nice clothing that also fits nicely. Skinny teenagers won’t have a problem but me, I do! Another thing that bugs me is that it’s difficult to find clothing in natural fibres, most is some sort of synthetic material.

Clothing sizes for women are so messed up. That’s why I never order clothing online. I have to try everything on before purchasing.

I totally get what you mean. Different designers, different size fittings, makes clothes shopping very annoying, especially if there’s a dress or shirt that I really really like but it doesn’t fit well

Yes,i can see the difference in baby clothes some size 6 months long and thin while the other are short and wide.

There sure is allot of differences in clothing size. I sure wish they were more regulated.
kathy downey says
Yes it would be great if it was regulated.
