This is just like my daughters’ Jeep.
My Hubby and I surprised our girls with this fun little ride last year. It’s a safe car, great in the snow, small enough that they can’t pack too many kids in there at once, and more than a little fun in the summer. Seriously, what could be better than heading to the beach with your besties for the day, your sunnies on and the top down on your ride. I was hoping the Jeep might help me win Mom of the year. What it’s been doing lately? Leaving me aggravated. Actually, aggravated is not the right word. Aggravated doesn’t begin to describe the level of ticked off, angry and violated I felt when for the third time in a year my dear daughter’s car was “tossed”. What do I mean by tossed? Well you see, it’s a Jeep. Not so glamorous, and regularly parked, in our driveway overnight, the doors left unlocked. We’ve lived in our lovely neighbourhood for 17 years now, it’s safe, people know each other and we actually felt it was better to leave the Jeep doors unlocked versus locked. Our thinking? If for some odd reason a thief wandered down our quiet suburban street and really wanted to break in, at least they wouldn’t smash the windows or rip the top. Soooo what did those no good hoooligans do? Break-in. THREE times over the past year. Sigh.
There is nothing, and I mean nothing of value to steal out of this vehicle. No garage door opener that could slyly be used to gain entry to our home. No visible bags, wallets or even CD’s that might appear interesting. Not even pocket change. There was some garbage from McDonald’s and Tim Hortons. And yet, THREE times in a year now we’ve marched out to the driveway to discover the glovebox has been upended, empty coffee cups have been thrown about, and mitts, sunscreen, and odds and ends tossed all over the damn place. I’m angry, frustrated, disappointed with humanity. Who does this? For what reason? And can they please just move along now.
It’s a horrible feeling knowing someone has broken into a car….worse, your daughter’s car mere feet from your home and were brazen enough to do it while you were watching television or were asleep in your bed.
Obviously, something has to change, has to be done, and quickly! We now ensure every door on that pretty little Jeep is locked after it’s driven with hopes the behaviour of the criminals will not escalate to window breaking, but this doesn’t feel like enough. Sadly it doesn’t feel like nearly enough. Not when you find out you aren’t the only Mama on the street feeling violated this week. Not when you hear the neighbours had tools stolen right out of their garage. Not when you hear car break-ins in your end of the city are on the rise. So you know what you do? You go out and buy yourself a fancy ass security system and hook that baby up. Then you leave a sweet little sign on the front seat of that Jeep that reads:
Then you just sit and wait. Hey, I’m the Mother of two kids who have both played competitive sports. I am the Queen of sitting and waiting. Me and my trusty little security camera with HD Weatherproof Night Vision and superior low light performance that automatically backs up to the cloud, are going to catch and kick some little criminal asses.
The car thieves are turning me into a crazy person. This is not the new winter hobby I was expecting. God help the punks who cross a Mama Bear and turn her into a Vigilante Mom.

We had a real dumb ass break into our car. He even left his cell phone so the police could call him and see all his pic. and drug use to show his parents. LOL

I just received an email from my local HOA about another breakin in my area. A camera is always a good idea.

Hubby ran in the post office on the weekend and someone sold the change and his jacket he just bought!

Seriously! People are so…..awful! Thank goodness for all the good in the world to help balance it out 🙂

The neighbourhood about 1km east of us gets hit a lot in the summer. If you don’t lock your car doors, your car gets rummaged through. Us, not so much because we have lane way garage parking while the area east of us has driveway parking. My husband installed cameras around our home about 5 years ago and we catch a lot of weird things on those cameras. I’m so glad we have them incase any BS like this occurs. I’d love to get the pricks on video so I could see who messes with my family’s crap and deal with them.
Stephanie says
I’m almost afraid to see what we will find. Gosh it’s amazing how many people have had similar things happen to them 🙁 Hope all is well these days!

So frustrating. Hopefully the camera catches those thieves if they try that again.
Stephanie says
Oh I’m on the look out now! 🙂

OMG I love your writing style, you make me laugh and I feel like I can totally relate to you! I hope you catch those hooligans. I’ve had the same thing happen to me and it feels like such a violation. Good luck!!!! 🙂
Stephanie says
Thank you so much! Not just for the sweet words but the encouragement. I hope we catch them too! And I’m sorry this has happened to you. It sounds like most people have experienced a similar break-in. Little creeps!

About 10 years ago my sister had her Jeep parked out front of the house & the thieves didn’t just break in… they actually stole the DOORS off the Jeep. They actually took the DOORS. Now that was a crazy morning to go outside & find that scene! Would’ve been real nice to have that on camera.
Stephanie says
OMG! That’s truly horrible! And what in the heck would they do with the doors? Sell them? Good grief.
Laurie P says
it’s unfortunate when something like this happens and your entire self is changed. Having to always look-out is crappy, I’ve been there. Currently researching cameras…..
Stephanie says
Oh you nailed it! I find myself forever looking out the window….at every little noise. So sad 🙁
Kristi says
That would be maddening to deal with. It seems like there are so many vehicle break-in’s nowadays. I always worry about something like this too.
Stephanie says
It’s just so frustrating. Hopefully this puts an end to their fun 🙂

We live in a really nice neighborhood too, where our neighbors are like one gigantic family. Unfortunately, that safe feeling doesn’t protect us from stupid asses either. Someone broke into my wheelchair van and broke my ramp in the process. If it wasn’t for a family friend mechanic, it would’ve cost me $500 that I don’t have. Someone needs to make examples out of these terds! Make teenagers less invincible. The law literally tells them to be stupid because they only get a slap on the hand.
Stephanie says
Oh my gosh! That is BEYOND awful. I’m so sorry that happened to you. Thank goodness for your friend who could fix your ramp for you. Sigh, some peoples kids, right?
Tricha says
I really hope they get caught and get a stiff payback for breaking into her car. Ugh! People nowadays! Just keep it locked from now on.
Stephanie says
Thanks, Tricha. I hope we catch these little thugs!

A camera with great playback resolution is invaluable in this sort of circumstance!
Stephanie says
That’s exactly what I think! Maybe my next post about this will contain video footage!

How vile!! Last summer we made the mistake of leaving our truck unlocked to run inside for FIVE minutes. When we came back to get ready to leave we noticed the inside had been rummaged and whoever it was stole all our coffee change! Never touch the coffee change!! We never found out who did it and they didn’t come back. We lock our doors all the time now. People shouldn’t question why we have a Doberman pinscher as a pet!! 😡😡 Sorry this happened to you three times at that! I hope you do catch them!!!
Stephanie says
FIVE minutes! Not only is that rude that someone would do that, but kind of scary! Did you feel like they were watching you?
So sorry this happened to you!
Alyssa says
It’s terrible how ballsy people are to just take what they want from whoever they want. We felt uneasy, sketchy like everyone who passed by our house was a suspect.
