So you’re headed to the most magical place on earth, Walt Disney World! You have your tickets, made your plan of attack, and have lost sleep with the excitement of it all. But have you figured out what to wear? Don’t leave it until the very last moment. Here’s the breakdown of what to wear so you have a fabulous fun day at Disney!
Step 1. Check the calendar. Are you headed in the dead of winter or the middle of the heat wave of summer? Of course, this is going to make a big difference.
Step 2. Remember that a successful day at Disney is a long day. Dress for comfort, but don’t completely abandon your regular style. Afterall, many, many pictures will be taken.
Step 3. Have good shoes! If you don’t have shoes you know you can walk in comfortably for hours, be sure to buy some a few weeks before the trip. Break those new kicks in before you go. My favourite of all time Ecco brand shoes. They may not be the most fashion-forward, but they are breathable and comfortable.
With all this in mind, here’s what you need to wear and carry on that perfect day at Disney World.
I like to keep it casual but still look like I put a little bit of thought into it. Here are a couple of outfits that works for me:
From Left:
Outfit 1.
- Burberry Brown Cat-Eye Sunglasses – Sunglassshut.com
- Mes Demoiselles Josephine floral-embroidered cotton top
- Mickey Mouse Silhouette Pendant in 10K Yellow Gold
- River Island Mid blue ripped Alannah relaxed skinny jeans
- Birkenstock Toe Strap Sandal
- Women’s MARC BY MARC JACOBS ‘Pretty Nylon’ Knapsack
Outfit 2:
- Michael Kors Michael Kors Jax Sunglasses – MichaelKors.com
- Softspun knit open-front long cardigan | Gap
- Women Double Layer Dobby Tank
- Travelon Anti-Theft Classic Crossbody Bucket BagApple Series Watch in pink
- River Island Mid blue wash ripped boyfriend denim shorts
- Ecco Shoes
Alternately you can throw on lightweight cotton shorts or capris, a V-neck T-shirt, and your function before fashion shoes. Add in a crossbody bag, sunnies, necklace, and watch or fitbit and you are ready to go.
Now let’s chat about your bag for the day. Mama’s of babies know the magic of the diaper bag. From diapers to blankets, extra changes of clothes to wee snacks for the entire family. You can stuff that bag until it’s near bursting. My fave tips. Freeze a juice box or two the night before you go and throw them in with the sippy cups. By the end of the day, they are just perfect for your little ones.
When you are out of the stroller stage you won’t have the gift of the diaper bag to haul a ton of extra’s around. You can, however, fill a backpack with all kinds of extras. Think light weigh hoodies for when the sun goes down, rain jacketin case incase, even extra sunscreen. No need to carry the backpack all day long. Just rent a locker at the entry to the park and go back and get it as needed.
Have older kiddos or blessed enough to be touring Walt Disney World with just your partner in crime? Here’s what you should consider putting in your little crossbody purse. Your smartphone, ID, cash, room key, band-aids (because blisters happen), Advil or Tylonel, and a tiny bottle of sunscreen.
Tip: The key to dressing for the perfect day at Disney World, layers. When you are afforded the opportunity to go to Disney World, you won’t want to miss a thing. Wandering the parks from sun up to sun down can mean lots of different temperature changes, or maybe even rain, so be prepared.
Last Thoughts: Don’t be afraid to throw in a little Disney! Where else in the world can you proudly display your undying love for all things Mickey Mouse!
Happy travels.

The shoe tip is key! Nothing will ruin a day at disney faster than sore feet!
Stephanie says
Yes! You need to wear comfy shoes 🙂

The first time I went to Disneyland I did not wear sensible shoes! That’s my main regret about Disneyland. I also didn’t wear sunscreen…oops! i should have worn my runners instead of flip flops!
Stephanie says
LOL Well, it does sound like you learned from your mistakes 🙂 I think we’ve all done it.

Thanks! I adore Marc Jacobs.

Great tips – especially the comfortable shoes. The backpack is a good idea too; you can carry necessities and still keep your hands free. Thanks for the tips.
Stephanie says
So happy you liked them!

I may have already posted here but I need all the help I can get! Can you please post the best way to pack your suggested outfits all in a carry on? 🙂
Stephanie says
Of course! Wear your shoes on the plane. Then I like the rolling method. I roll my T’s, Tank Tops, shorts or capris and pack travel size everything (sunscreen, make-up, lotions, toothpaste, deodorant etc) Double check the size of carry-on allowed on your flight and remember you are usually allowed 1 carry on and one personal item. Ie a purse or laptop bag. Make use of ALL that space. You’d be surprised what you can fit!

I walked around Disney when I was a teenager & of course I had to look cool in a pair of flat dress shoes that weren’t comfortable at all! I had so many blisters on that trip. Would never make that mistake again, I’m all about comfort shoes now!!
Stephanie says
Ug that’s a hard lesson to learn. (but I think we have all done it) 🙂

It’s been ages since I have been to Disney World!! For me, it would have to be the comfy shoes because I have lots of problems with achy feet…so that would be first on my list… with so much walking you must have good shoes. Many good tips here.. I like them all!!
Stephanie says
Comfy, already broken in shoes are so important. You really can’t enjoy your day if your feet hurt.
So happy you loved my tips!

Thank you for writing your article. I love the comment about throwing your stuff in a locker by the front gate. That’s a great tip. Also you can never be too sure about the the weather. We were there one year in our shorts and t-shirts (we didn’t check the weather) and before the gate opened it began to snow in Florida. :O. Let’s just say we left in Disney sweatpants and sweatshirts since we just assumed it would be hot since we were in Florida. Lol
Stephanie says
Snow! Ok, that’s a hard one to prepare for. LOL
I’m so happy you love my tips and yes, making use of that locker at the front can make your day so much more pleasant.

Exactly! You must have good shoes. Hurting feet can ruin the day.
