It’s National Dog Day!! Officially this day of the dog is celebrated every August 26th. It’s a day for people to recognize the importance of dogs and how they impact their lives on a daily basis. It’s also supposed to be a day to recognize how hard service dogs work on our behalf and to draw attention to the plight of abused and abandoned dogs
- It’s not supposed to be a day you complain about dog hair blowing through your house.
- How there’s slobber on all your things.
- How, no matter what you do, your family room carpet reeks with Eau De Puppy.
- Or how it’s no longer cute that it keeps raining every day this damn summer and your giant Great Dane is tracking in as much mud as a full-grown horse might.
So I won’t do that.
Instead of whining about my great big mess of a dog, I’ll just keep sweeping, vacuuming, lighting candles and being happy for this pet of ours that has a piece of my heart. I’m thankful for:
The laughs he provides when he has to walk around puddles because he’s deathly afraid of them.
I’ll be amazed by the cuddles he gives my girls when he senses they are upset.
I’ll be thankful for his constant companionship. Especially as my daughters get ready to go back to school and I sit in this great big house all alone again. You are never alone when you have a dog.
And I’ll wish I could be as sweet a “person” as him. Always eager to please, forever in a good mood, happiest with the slightest act of kindness, completely unselfish, loving, and attentive. Everyone should be as sweet and giving of their love as a dog No other creature – big or small – could possibly love you as unconditionally as your dog.
Happy National Dog Day. Hope you get some puppy love today.

OMGoodness! 🙂 I remember reading your posts when you picked him as a puppy and kept visiting him at the breeders. Even when your brought him home and what a cute all ears & paws puppy he was. How long ago was that?
We have 4! See Instagram @njnowski So I really relate to this post 🙂
It is good to hear someone else see’s past the dog hair, mud & slobber and knows that the unconditional love they give back is worth everything!

I didn’t think I could love and adore my dog like I do but there’s no way I could avoid it; first because he’s adorable and second because he’s really quirky, for instance, I love to try to take him for walks but instead he’s like walking a concrete block and he even fakes a limp because he’s so lazy, but as soon as I cave in and say lets go home all of a sudden the limp goes away and he’s running like crazy. As soon as he hits the living room he dives into his toy box and there’s no peace until we play with him. Yep, there’s no doubt about it, he’s spoiled and pampered but most of all he’s loved !
