”Jobs fill your pockets, but adventures fill your soul.” – Jaime Lyn
When presented with the opportunity to head out and explore places unknown, the answer is always yes. Recently I was offered the chance to visit and explore a place I’d never heard of before, Sherkston Shores Beach Resort and Campground. Located about 2 and 1/2 hours from London and approximately 90 minutes from the GTA – this cottage/camping facility was just waiting to be explored. Myself, my daughter and two of her very best friends headed out on a road trip – the object, explore all the area had to offer, make some memories, and fill our souls. Here’s what we found when we arrived at this lively Beach Resort on Lake Erie.
Tent campers, renters, seasonal RVers, and cottagers galore. Shrekston Shores Beach Resort and Campground is an expansive 560 acres set on a 2 1/2 mile stretch of beach on peaceful Lake Erie. While staying at Sherkston Shores, owners and renters alike have access to a plethora of family-friendly activities in one of the most unique atmosphere’s anywhere in Southwestern Ontario.
A four-day stay is barely enough to scratch the surface of the amenities and activities offered at Sherkston Shores Resort. While on property families are welcome to enjoy access to the beach and waterpark. Keep busy in the action-packed pools, waterslides, and a splash pad. Join in a game of volleyball, soccer, a game of giant chess, or checkers, or tackle the mini-golf course. Then there is the arcade, the live bands performing both day and night, the option to get a temporary tattoo, the Aerial challenge course or rock wall and so much more! A stay at Sherkston Shores is a lively, fun-filled, and family-centric experience fun for all ages.
Sherkston Shores offers a variety of accommodations from true campgrounds to Luxury Cottage accommodations. All accommodations are close to one another giving you the chance to meet your neighbours. There are numerous parks with swings and slides, a large clean arcade, and a restaurant if you don’t feel like cooking.
During our stay, we had the opportunity to check out a 3 bedroom Premium Cottage a mere stones throw from the beach. The cottage was cute, very clean, came stocked with paper towels, toilet paper, and dish soap, and also included bathroom and linen towels. All we had to provide were beach towels, our groceries – and if we wanted to use the BBQ – charcoal. We were all set for our girls weekend at the beach. Our little group tried as many activities as we possible, while still fitting in some quality beach time.
Here are our 5 tips to make the most of your stay at Sherkston Shores Beach Resort and Campground.
Rent A Golf Cart
- When you check into Sherston Shores you will notice Birdie Golf Carts. You will also see the hundreds, yes, I’d say hundreds of golf carts driving around the grounds of the park. This is a massive complex and truly the best way to get around is by golf cart. Besides that, it’s loads of fun! You drive that little baby to the water park, to dinner and even on to the beach. Insider Tip: Be sure to rent your cart in advance as they do “sell out”. My other tip – when you are not driving that cart and it’s parked back at your cottage CHARGE it. You don’t want to have your cart run out of juice and have to push it those last few feet home. Not that this happened to me.
Special Delivery
- One of the restaurants located right on site is Boston Pizza. Why is this important? Because this is no ordinary Boston Pizza. This particular store offers a very special kind of delivery. As you are lazing your day away on the beach, you can kick things up a notch and feel like a true VIP by having Cart Side Delivery. Yup. Jump online, place your order, and Boston Pizza will deliver right to your golf cart on the beach. Too much fun.
Don’t Miss The Fireworks
- Once a week fireworks are offered. It’s said these fireworks start at dusk, but I’d say they start at dark. Insider Tip: For a stunning view and a smaller crowd watch the fireworks from the far side of the quarry.
- For a unique experience make sure you attend Chocolate Bar Bingo. Just do it. It’s just good old fashioned fun. The cost to play is two chocolate bars per card and this gets you about 5 games. Save yourself some time and money by bringing your chocolate bars with you to Sherkston Shores.
The Beach
- Make the best of your beach day at Sherkston Shores by being prepared. Go early in the day to secure a good location. Those spots closest to the boat launch and volleyball court are the busiest. The further you drive or walk down the quieter it gets so plan accordingly. Insider Tip: If you park that cart at the quiet end of the beach in the early morning, the sand will be hard-packed. As the weather warms up, the sand changes and becomes softer and that cart of yours becomes a wee bit more difficult to drive! When it’s time to leave at the end of the day, you may find yourself leaning on your neighbours for a big old push to get rolling. Don’t worry, teamwork abounds at this friendly resort.

Looks like fun! Our family rented a beach front property for a week in NS this summer. It was a super fun week, but I’m sure that chocolate bar bingo would have made the week even better 🙂
