What’s for dinner tonight? It’s the question I’ve come to loathe the most. I know I’m the Mom, but sometimes I just don’t know what to serve for dinner. Don’t you get bored of eating and serving the same dish over and over again? I know I do. One night of the week I don’t dread is pizza night. It’s a night off from cooking, a night where I don’t have to cook, and I love it! The only draw back, it’s not the healthiest. So lately, we’ve been switching it up and turned it into make your own pizza night. Now, thanks to Sabra Canada Hummus….pizza night is getting a big old twist.
This my friends is Sabra Hummus Flatbread Pizza! You’re welcome.
The beauty of make your own pizza night, is the opportunity to make that pizza what ever you want it to be, spend some extra time with your kiddos and embrace your inner Betty Crocker. There’s no “wrong” way to make a pizza so you can let your creative juices flow. Of course our family loves the traditional pizza toppings but on this occasion (and let me tell you many occasions from now on) we decided to kick it up a notch and spread hummus instead of tomato sauce on the base. This Friday night we created a Mediterranean style flatbread that wowed the crowd…Friday pizza night will never be the same.
Here’s what you need:
Ingredients:
*Your choice of flat bread: Pita Bread, Pizza Crusts, or Naan Bread. (we went with Naan)
*Extra Virgin Olive Oil
*Italian Seasoning – a sprinkle
*Sabra Hummus – we had on offer both the Roasted Red Pepper Sabra Hummus and the Classic. I love that by using Sabra Hummus in place of traditional pizza sauce I’m feeding my family a healthy plant-based protein and a source of fibre and iron.
*Cucumber – chopped
*Sun Dried Tomatoes -chopped
*Black olives -sliced
*Red Onion -diced
*Salt and Pepper -to taste
*Mozzarella Cheese – shredded
*Feta Cheese
*Parmesan (optional but not really)
*Baby Arugula (optional) to add a nice peppery finish
Directions:
*Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees
*Prep all your ingredients and have them ready to go – buffet style.
*Drizzle your pita or naan lightly with olive oil and sprinkle with Italian Seasoning.
*Remove from oven and generously spread each pita or naan with 2 – 3 tablespoons of your favourite flavour of Sabra Hummus. In my opinion, the more the better!
*Top with your favourite Mediterranean inspired ingredients.
*Bake in the oven at 400 degrees for approximately 6 minutes to toast up the pita or naan, and meld all those flavours together.
Serve with a side Greek Salad.
The result a ridiculously tasty thin crust pizza, juxtaposed with the creamy Sabra Hummus and a superb crunch factor. It’s now a family favourite.
In a rush? Try a no-bake version. Perfect on a summers eve or just a fresh twist – follow the directions above but don’t bake. Sliced up into squares this would also make a lovely appetizer!

Here’s some insider info and a new idea for you; Sabra products are Gluten-Free, Non-GMO Verified, Vegetarian/Vegan, have no trans fats or cholesterol are Kosher, and can be found in major grocery stores and mass retailers across the country. I found Sabra products in two different spots in my local Loblaw. The next time you are making lunches, or helping kiddos make they own, remember that Sabra Hummus is a healthy addition to any sandwich and makes a perfect a spread replacing butter, margarine or mayo. One of our “go-to” lunches now includes a simple veggie lunch wrap. We use our favourite whole-wheat wrap, spread with hummus, add spinach, red pepper, cucumber and cheese. Roll it up add it to the bento box, and lunch is done. The veggies stay crisp and it’s such a nice break from traditional sandwiches.
