The week ahead s a CRAZY one. In under FIVE days I have to get TWO girls to THREE different sporting events in THREE different cities. I’m going to log ohh about 12 hours in the car and countless hours cheering and wiping away tears of pride. My babies work hard in their dance, volleyball and cheerleading sports and I adore screaming from the sidelines.
But the prep work? Oy vey…the prep work can drive a Mama to drink! So when I should have been getting my house in order, my ducks in a row and my bags packed, I was instead….distracted. My day and my inner dialogue, went a little something like this:
*Wash jeans for trip,
*Pay the bills on line.
*Oh look the ducks are back in the pool, they must be so cold!
*Fold underwear.
*Check Facebook because folding underwear is tres boring.
*Take a phone call from a friend and have a good old chat, oh for an hour or so.
*Maybe I should bake some muffins! Muffins are good for a trip!
*Door Bell.
*Must find socks! Why can I never find socks?
*Feed the cat.
*Dance costumes, make-up and all the shoes.
*Is her Cheer Uniform clean? Damn! Grumble a little, wash Cheer Uniform.
*How can we be out of coffee? Well that won’t do, off to the grocery store!
*One hour and 150.00 later, back home and back to packing!
Five days on the road, two different hotels, travel shampoo! Crap, I forgot to pick up some wee shampoos!
*Well it is nice outside, a trip to Shopper’s Drug Mart wouldn’t hurt.
*Love me some little shampoo bottles, little travel first aid kit, oh and prescriptions filled! Now I’m on a packing roll! Throw in another load of laundry in then off to pick up the kiddos!
*Pick up one child from school, the second from Track and Field Practice.
*Home again, home again jiggety jig.
*Good Grief, how is it 5PM already! All I wanted to do today was tidy up a few loose ends and pack for our trip and I have done nothing! Maybe if I start all over again and focus on the cooler first.
*Lost for 20 minutes in the basement, cleaned up the Wii and found 3 bowls. Cooler located.
*Well I have to start dinner now. Oh, and apparently help with homework.
*Hold everything. SweetGirl has a killer headache. All work, laundry and packing comes to a screeching halt. Dr. Mommy trying every trick she knows to help tame the headache beast. Please God don’t let my child get migraines like her Mother.
*Late at night when the house has finally gone to bed; I finish the laundry, organize 3 different bags for 3 different people. Lay out snacks and drinks for the cooler. Pray my baby feels better in the morning. My day is lost, the bags are finally packed and this my friends is why it can take me an entire day to pack for a five day trip. This is the life of a Mama in the suburbs.
Come hell or high water we are hitting the road bright and early. Wish us luck!

Wow, I hope your juggling goes well. It is no wonder that when empty nest syndrome hits, it is difficult to handle considering what parents go through like this…

oh Good Luck!! I’m sure your ladies will do fantastic!!
It truly is hard trying to stay focussed when getting ready for a trip of any kind, mind races for what you need to do… what you want to do….what has to get done.. plus the ‘daily’ deeds.. I feel your pain!
