How often to you run to the kitchen for a drink of cold refreshing water? Do you ever leave the tap running as you brush your teeth? Are you like me and are truly looking forward to celebrating the arrival of summer with an icy cold lemonade? Dozens of times each and every day I turn on the tap, and encourage my little one’s to do the same, to grab a cold drink of water without a second thought to how lucky we are to have access to clean, safe, drinkable water. If only this was the case all over the world.
In a a recent survey conducted by P&G and Walmart Canada, it was found that 80 per cent of us take access to safe drinking water for granted. Would you be shocked to learn that one billion people in the developing world do not have the same luxury? That diseases from contaminated water are killing more children every day than HIV/AIDS and malaria combined? I was.
To help combat this global issue, P&G and Walmart Canada have teamed up to donate one day of clean drinking water for every P&G product purchased at Walmart or Walmart.ca during the month of April. The Canadian initiative will support the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program (CSDW) that aims to save one life every hour by 2020 through the provision of two billion litres of clean water each year. You can find out even more about this program by visiting www.csdw.org and www.walmart.ca/cleanwater.
One person who is taking action is Canadian actor Jason Priestley. He has teamed up with P&G and Walmart Canada to help provide clean water to the developing world. As a clean water activist Jason Priestly is quoted as saying “More than 1,600 children die every single day from water-borne illnesses. I believe that everyone should have clean water. As a Dad, the thought of children dying every day from preventable diseases caused by lack of clean water is an unfathomable tragedy. I’m proud to be partnering with P&G and Walmart Canada to educate Canadians about how they can help bring clean drinking water to children and families in the developing world.”
Jason Priestly will be our very special guest at the #cleanwater Twitter Chat!
