**Disclosure: I am a P&Gmom. As part of my affiliation with this group I received compensation, products and special access to P&G events and opportunities. The opinions on this blog are my own.
When my girls were 5 or 6 years old, back to school shopping meant countless hours picking out cutsie little dresses, jean skirts and cardigans, knee high socks and jumpers, all with matching hairbands and barrettes. As they got a little older, and decided they had opinions of the own, we still had those marathon shopping sessions, but the clothes got a little “cooler” and Mom’s opinion just didn’t matter as much. It’s okay! Such is life. Then suddenly in the last year or two, a sweet and unexpected turn. Mom KNOWS stuff again! Say what? It’s true! Suddenly we aren’t just shopping for back to school clothes and shoes, but we’re starting a beauty routine, and entering into the world of make-up. It’s way more fun than I care to admit and those shopping trips, they’ve gotten a little more interesting!
So where did we start? In the beauty aisle of Walmart of course. Walmart is our first choice for back-to-school beauty product must-haves, and it’s now my favourite part of back to school shopping. At ages 13 and 16, my girls don’t need make-up, but they do want it, so it’s important to make sure they have the right products for their skin, and to be sure they are creating a beauty routine that will help compliment and enhance their already natural beauty.
Back To School Beauty Tips:
For both my girls, the rule is, a little goes a long way. Small subtle and easy ways to enhance their natural beauty is what we look for. Here are some of our favourite products and tips:
Take care of the hair. My girls have long healthy, shiny, healthy looking hair thanks in part to Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner. It’s part of their normal beauty routine. Now that the early mornings of High School are about to start again, a new challenge. Not enough time in the morning for two girls to get ready without trampling each other! Thank goodness for one of our favourite products ever; Pantene Pro-V’s NEW collection of Dry Shampoo.
High School starts early, really early, and sometimes a shower in the morning is just not in the cards. Pantene’s Dry Shampoo gives my girls the opportunity to hit snooze for a few more minutes and still head off to school with the fresh beautiful hair. Brilliant.
Focus on the eyes. COVERGIRL LashBlast Mascara; My oldest has been pen named “BlueEyed” girl for a reason and a little mascara makes those eyes pop.
This mascara is smudge and smear proof, yet easy to wash away at the end of the day. Perfect for girls on the go.
Protect your skin. Olay Total Effects Featherweight Moisturizer SPF 15: One of my favourites, and new to my girls. This light weight moisturizer goes n like a dream and offers protection from the sun at the same time. I find it brightens my skin, minimizes the look of pores and overall evens out my skin tone. For me it’s a must under my make-up.
Take off your make-up each night. Olay Wet Cleansing Cloths: There’s a dancer in my house and I’ve put these cleansing cloths to the test. We’ve used Olay Wet Cleansing Cloths when we’re just too tired to wash off make-up, when we’re travelling, and to remove the heaviest of dance make-up after a competition. The best part, they even work on the most sensitive of skin.
Have a little fun. Olay Total Effects Pore Minimizing CC Cream. When I’m in a hurry and don’t really have time to “do” my make-up, this one is my go to. It adds a little shimmer to your skin, a little fun, creating an airbrushed look in moments and leaves my skin feeling silky and soft. In my opinion, a great cream for that teen looking for a tiny bit of coverage without the look of foundation. That and some gloss and mascara and you’re good to go!
I’m raising my girls to take care of themselves, be proud of who they are and have a little fun along the way. At 13 and 16 they still like shopping with me, enjoy my tidbits of my advice and believe it or not are teaching me a thing or two about fashion and beauty. I can’t wait to see what great products we discover next!
The experts from COVERGIRL and Pantene have some of their own amazing tips to share. Every great beauty look starts with a great regimen:
“Following a daily hair care regimen is the basis of great looking hair! One of the staples of this is a shampoo and conditioner like the Pantene Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner – I love this collection because it’s designed to repair hair, control moisture levels and prevent damage for a soft, smooth, moisturized feel. This makes it a fantastic option for girls experimenting with new styles and putting their hair through its paces so it looks healthy and strong.” – Justin German
“When girls start asking to use makeup, think of it as a gradual transition with a very soft and natural feel. Mascara is an easy way to start experimenting – I usually suggest younger girls start with a single coat of brown mascara to give a more natural look. My favourite for beginners is COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume with its wide, straight barrel that makes it really easy to handle. Once comfortable with LashBlast Volume, then branch out and try others in the COVERGIRL LashBlast family (Bloom, Clump Crusher or Fusion) and experiment with other pigments.” – Veronica Chu
