Do you want to hear the truth about Thanksgiving? It’s a whole lot of work revolving around one stupid bird. Why does the turkey have to be so much work? Every single time I host a big old family event it’s the same destructive pattern. My magical turkey day prep; it looks something like this:
Cleaning.
Stomping of feet. (that might be me)
Dropping of half of paycheque at grocery store for the Thanksgiving feast.
Yelling at my joyous family to help with the damn cleaning.
More cleaning.
Slightly heated conversations about what the teen girls will wear to dinner.
Pouting because I hate all my clothes.
Rush job on laundry so teen girls have “acceptable” Thanksgiving dinner attire.
One last run to the grocery store because I forgot the cranberry sauce that nobody will eat anyway.
Cooking!
Massive turkey success.
Fabulous family time.
Dinner you prepped for for three days over in 30 minutes because the kids are resultless and ready to move on to dessert.
Ug I ate too much and my pants are too tight.
More freaking cleaning.
Sigh.
Bonus gift. I get the leftovers!
This year, a different approach to the Holiday Feast. Will it be less stressed? Less chaotic? More manageable? I think so. This year my friends I have hit he Thanksgiving jackpot. Two Thanksgiving dinners on different days and I’m not hosting either one of them! Winning! I’m taking appies and salad to one, dessert for the crew to the other. My girls have been put on notice that they had better have their skinny little butts organized, I shall not be doing laundry at midnight this year. Outfits for Thanksgiving feasts will be ready. I don’t have to clean my house. I just have to help clean up after two dinners which is NO problem at all. All the benefits of the big fabulous family time and none of the stress. This my friends is the way to do Thanksgiving.
Hope you all have a warm, fuzzy and drama free weekend!
Mwah!

Sounds like an awesome Thanksgiving for you, most notably….not having to go crazy with all the prepping 😉

I’ll bet it was a nice change not to have to do all the cleaning and cooking. Now that my kids are all adults I don’t have to do it either. My son and family live in the same house and he’s a good cook and makes all the big meals 🙂

Sounds like you guys figured out the way to indeed, have a Happy Thanksgiving! We went very small this year with just our daughters and grandchildren with us. It was lovely to have 2 wee babies being handed around the room!

Ohhhh, I love the making all of the food part. Although I understand your stress I am pleased to report that I have just finished my homemade blueberry/cranberry sauce with cabernet. After that I don’t need to make anything else.

Happy Thanksgiving and Enjoy not having to host the dinner! Quiet year for us since hubby is working, so we are celebrating Thanksgiving at our trailer – BBQ turkey this year 🙂

The turkey is the easy part…..all those side dishes drive me crazy and trying to get them all hot at the same time is next to impossible! How exciting to be having two dinners and they are not at your house….win, win! We are invited to go to Chicago this year but my husband kinda wants to stay home. However if we stay home it is just us so it doesn’t matter how the house looks. Have a wonderful time…..
